Time to Get my Game Face On!

It is finally test week for FAR. I’m not really sure if I’m excited, nervous, anxious, or stressed at this point. I take the FAR exam Thursday afternoon, and all I can say is I’m ready to take it and be done with it.

I have always found that when I study for two exams in one testing window, I’m motivated on the first exam. I can stare at the computer and my notes for long periods of time, and I feel better about my preparation.

When it comes to taking the second exam in a testing window, I feel as though my preparation is not as solid because I’m tired, worn out and sometimes tend to think more about what I’m going to do when I’m done taking it rather than actually preparing for it.

That being said, I feel as though I have a pretty good handle on most of the material for the FAR section. I have followed the 3 month study plan of Roger CPA Review for individuals trying to take FAR in a one month time frame. Since I don’t have the required 30 days, I had to move up some of the scheduled lectures, skip some of the days off and cut short some of the recommended study hours.

As I say this realize that this will be the 7th time that I’ve taken FAR, and I’ve been working for Deloitte for almost 6 years, so some of the material just sticks and I understand it completely. I bet not a lot of people say this about Deferred Taxes.

I’ve worked a lot of MCQs over all of the sections but have been focusing heavily on areas that are tested in the Financial Statement Accounts section as that was my weak section on my previous exam based on the score reports.

I’ve taken work off this week and have been putting in the hours sitting in my home office working through the various sections. The plan for the remainder of the week includes working through trouble areas for the rest of today, taking a practice exam or two tonight, and then re-reading my notes and working a few MCQ’s tomorrow to get my brain warmed up to conquer this beast.

I hope everybody’s studying is going well. I’ll talk to you next time after my exam and give updates. At that point I’ll have switched over from long hours studying to long hours at the office finishing up tax returns for the 9/15 deadline. Does it ever end? Nope, but I guess it’s the life we’ve chosen!

Take care and Study Hard and let me know if I can be of any help to anyone out there!

Matt
