Hello! I finally passed the CPA exam in May and am officially licensed. I currently work in Internal Audit, and am considering the CIA certification. I have heard that it’s beneficial to take the CIA right after the CPA exam since a lot of the material overlaps.

Now that the exam has gone from 4 to 3 parts, can anyone suggest a good 2013 review course? I used Becker for the CPA and loved it…but I’m clueless for the CIA.

I would say Gleim is pretty highly regarded for the CIA. I also took a live course which was awesome.

Also, the IIA produces a book called CIA Model Exam Questions. This is a must!!! Good luck!!

Gleim is popular. Most people I know use it. Books should be enough. Some people supplement with audio if they have long commutes they want to take advantage of.

From what I heard, CIA is a breeze compared to CPA.

@memmy I finished the CPA as of May (still waiting on my license-silly NYS). I am studying for the CIA now. I have the CIA learning system…provided by my office. I do not like that you can not randomize questions to practice with so I supplemented with the Gliem test bank. So far so good. I take the first part August 19. The entire process so far has been worlds easier than the CPA.

When are you testing or have you not decided yet?

Thanks for all the advice everyone. From what it sounds like I should go with books and supplement with a testbank. Anyone have experience with the Wiley one? I loved their CPA testbank. Or maybe the Gleim testbank?

I am submitting the application today and have heard to start with Part III since it contains the most accounting principles (which I am rapidly forgetting as time goes on…). Anyone have any advice with which part is best to start with?

I have the Gleim testbank for the CIA. I like it a lot. I use wiley for the CPA. It is different but I like it!

I am starting with part one simply because it is part one. I may move to part 3 next and come back and do part three. I guess it all depends on how part 1 goes. (I test August 19)

Thanks. I think I will purchase the three 2013 books and the testbank. Are you referring to the Gleim online testbank? They're running some deal right now for the “books and online test prep”.

Also, how is Gleim about updating materials if you wind up studying into 2014?

I ordered the Gleim testbank online and it came with the books (I think it was part of the deal that you mentioned). I had access to the test bank immediately and the books took a few days to arrive.

I have no idea about studying into 2014 and what their deal is. I know my access to the testbank is good for like 540ish more days.

@smp71 – Awesome! I just scheduled my Part 3 for September 28 and got my Gleim materials delivered last night. I started having horrible CPA study session flashbacks. Hopefully this stuff doesn't fry my brain. Good luck! Let us know how the test goes.

I had horrible CPA flashbacks….more specifically failing REG flashbacks. That fueled the power night last night. I am thinking I will take Part 3 next and come back and do Part 2 later…assuming all goes well August 19! At least I will know right away…no agonizing over the wait!

Took and passed part one of the CIA exam yesterday. Everything from the testing environment, to the exam software to the exam itself was worlds easier than the CPA exam. Bonus, the testing center people do not treat you like a common criminal either!
