Didn't finish the exam… - Page 2

So…I took REG yesterday and didn’t finish. I felt awesome rounding out the MCQ and went into the SIMs with an hour and 15 mins left! Then there were two monster problems. I finished 3 but as soon as I finished I realized I had done the wrong method for an entire question so tried to scramble to change it all. Let’s just say for the sake of it I’m confident about completing two SIMs only. I didn’t do the research question since the others are obviously more heavily weighted. Is there ANY WAY I CAN PASS? I have a couple friends who said they had the following experiences:

-did 1.5 SIMs, didn’t feel confident about their MCQ but got a 73 (hey I finished .5 more…it could happen!)

-did 2 SIMs on FAR and passed with an 83

-didn’t finish 2 SIMs on FAR and “passed with more than ‘just barely”

Any words of encouragement or similar stories so I know they’re not lying out of pure bliss of passing or just to make me feel better? I felt prepared throughout but obviously took too much time. I just know I had finished and didn’t walk away saying, I wish I studied a certain something more.

Well, thanks for the words of encouragement. I know that there's a very slim chance of passing but we shall see. And maybe I only think I nailed the MCQ because I need some hope and they were actually all “Medium” testlets and didn't do very well at all :(. Oh well, the waiting game begins.

The “better than barely” comes from a person who didn't want to share their scores but wanted me to know that it was possible if they could pass by a large enough margin having not completed 2 SIMs. I just want a 75!!

And I didn't think the research question was weighted as much as others! I know they're all worth different amounts and I'm sure it depends on how difficult it is as some seem impossible to find, while others are obvious. But compared to the other 5 SIMs there's no way this was weighted very heavily. Annoying, though because I definitely could've gotten it done. Wish I didn't spend so much time on the (LONGER) method for one of the SIMs that should've taken 5 mins and was a guaranteed 100% and now I know I bombed it. Maybe it'll be weighted less heavily for that reason :).

I think I will still read through my notes every couple of days to keep it fresh in my brain in case I have to retake.

Hard to believe the research question is weighted the same. I mean, maybe it is but the AICPA also swears the exams are not curved and does anyone believe that?

There is certainly a chance you passed. Best of luck to you.

    Hi jpowell31,

I'm pretty sure you and I had about exactly the same REG experience — I took it 7/31 (so I don't find out until 8/21-22). I thought I rocked out the MCQs (my last two testlets were pretty difficult) and there really were not many MCQs that I didn't know/guessed at. But when I had practiced Sims on Becker, they were much easier and shorter than the real sims — when practicing, it only took me about 5 minutes per sim. I intended to leave myself over an hour to do sims, but only had 30 minutes (yikes!) So I only finished two of them – and because I was so rushed, I don't think I got all of those correct. Which means that I only did 2/5 (optimistically — even assuming that one of the omitted ones was a pre-test item). I was really depressed because it wasn't a knowledge issue – I just didn't allocate my time well. I've got to take FAR 10/2 before I start work, and was really hoping to be done with everything before I started. Maybe by some miracle we'll pass – I'm still holding out hope, but trying to periodically look at my REG stuff to retain it in the event I have to re-take. We'll have to keep each other posted!

    AUD - 80
    BEC - 85
    REG (7/31) - waiting
    FAR (10/2)

My buddy didn't finish FAR and scored an 89. It's definitely plausible to pass without finishing. It's all about getting the right questions right and the right ones wrong.

@kdpcarolina04 – exact experience! I didn't walk out wishing I reviewed something more just wishing I didn't panic when the clock started counting down because I had so much time starting my SIMs then all of a sudden I was just clicking through wondering what was worth it. I know everyone says Becker SIMs don't prepare you but it's true. I was thinking 5-10 minutes per SIM when it look me 20-25. One question that I skipped HAD to have been a pre-test question. It was massive and combined 2573 different concepts (okay, so I'm exaggerating a little but there's NO way anyone could've finished the test completely and confidently with that sucker). Anyway, let's keep each other updated. If I can pass this, there's hope for us all! Holding out hope for the score release on 21st/22nd – in the middle of the only vacation I'll get this year! But I will definitely be reviewing my notes on the long plane rides. I can't be too optimistic.

Welp – 68 it was. Not shocking I guess but I would love more pointers on how to practice the SIMs. I did better in MCQ and comparative on all topics but corporate tax although that was mostly in the SIMs I didn't complete (and did worse than average on). I'm re-sitting on Oct 12th and have been drilling MCQ until I get 90's on all HW/progress tests. the Becker practice exams do not have good SIMs – they're almost a joke compared to the real thing. I'm going to do the Gleim practice exam a week before and hope to just keep drilling the info in but…suggestions are welcomed! I just couldn't finish and I had over an hour left for SIMs :(.

Didn't understand ANY of my FAR sims, not even the research. Didn't finish them .. pretty much guessed and laughed my way through every one .. got a 76.

Not stellar, but I passed. I hate FAR.

    - passed all 4 exams on my first try using Becker!

    Ethics: TBD

My friend didn't finish 4 SIMS (nothing entered at all) when she took FAR and got 78. She got all stronger in MCQ though. It's vice versa when she took AUD. She felt confident, finished everything and only got 60 something. This exam is weird.
