Hi all,

I’m wondering if we can start a thread on this.

I have a test expiring on 5/31/2020, and I’d like to think the expiration date will automatically be extended at some point, but I’m getting very little information from Google on whether I need to contact someone (NASBA?) and ask for an extension, or just wait for an announcement (because they are getting flooded with questions).

Anyone have any links or correspondence you can share?

I’m in CT. I’m sure this is going to vary by state.

Yeah im frustrated as hell, Im in the same shoes as you are. It seems like we will just have to wait until Nasba announces they have requested every state board to extend credit to those expiring before 6/31/2020. My understanding is that most state boards resume operations until May due to Coronavirus. If they refuse to extend credits we definitely should protest.

Update. I just checked CPA Central, and my FAR exam that was set to expire on 5/31/2020 was automatically changed to expire on 9/30/2020. I had not contacted anyone yet about an extension.

I think it may depend on when your state board meets. Mine is Tennessee and they are considering granting credit extensions, but have not yet met about it. The gov website says they are meeting in early May so maybe within the next couple of weeks for me.

But this is not even fair to people with expiring credits in the upcoming months, not only May and June. There's literally no availability until August in any of the Prometric centers near my area (South Florida). If you are part of the 50% that's receiving a cancellation email this upcoming week, your exam appointment gets pushed back 4 months… 4 months!!! And if you're part of the lucky ones that will get a confirmation email, and end up taking the exam, but fail it, then you wont find any appointment until August or September. I have an expiring credit in November but still need to pass 2 exams. I think this is a no brainer, expiring credits should be extended for anyone with expiring credits this year, period. These are unprecedented times, and it is no one's fault.

@Etg1991. I'm in the same situation as you. I have FAR expiring credit in Nov but need to pass BEC and AUD. I'm 22 week pregnant and I wanted to finish all before the due date. I would have done with my AUD exam by now and moved on with BEC. I wish NASBA will expent anyone with expiring credits this year, otherwise it's totally unfair.

Exam Credit Extensions

Due to the COVID-19 emergency disaster declaration signed by the Governor on March 6, 2020, a waiver was granted of the requirement that CPA candidates must complete all parts of the CPA examination within an 18-month period. Candidates whose exam credits expire during the time of the emergency declaration will be granted an extension which lasts for the duration of the emergency plus an additional 180 days from the end of the emergency. This exam credit extension replaces the 90 day extension that was recently granted to CPA candidates by way of letter from the Board.

Where did this information come from about the PA credit extension? Very interesting. Almost seems to good to be true.

I found the statement on the PICPA's website. My question is still what is considered the “time of the emergency declaration”. Is that day May 8th as of right now with the potential of being pushed back even further?

To me it seems like they are trying to keep the integrity of the exam by not extending (or a very limited extension) the 18 month window. I understand why because every other candidate has operated under that window. I feel like they need to just have a blanket extension for anyone who has passed any section before the emergency declaration (whatever the date was, late February or March maybe). Even if you just passed 1 part in January for example, you are missing out on two months (potentially more) of the testing window. People are are also dealing with additional life obstacles that may be of a higher priority like kids or family.

Maybe I'm soft for thinking they should issue a blanket extension but I'm hoping they are at least considering it.

I’m in NH I sat for the exam on 2nd of March but received my score on 19th of March.

Could I be very unlucky and not get an extension for a 2 days difference?
