    Hello,

I need advice… I have tried REG for over a year already. I started studying back in May 2011. The following are my scores:

    July 2011 – 35

    Nov 2011 – 69

    Feb 2012 – 57

    May 2012 – 72

I have tried REG for such a long time with no results. Should I quit the CPA and study for the CIA? I work as an internal auditor so I believe the CIA would be more applicable to my work experience.

What would you guys recommend? Thank you in advance for your advice.

    I have been using RogerCPAReview

Why cant you be both CPA and a CIA?

    expect the best
    be prepared for the worst
don't give a damn on what others think &
    do your own thing....

    @kayleek

Is obtaining or passing CIA examinations easier than CPA?

I haven't research the requirements for CIA, however, always figured it was difficult…

    BEC: Passed
    REG: Passed
    FAR: Almost Past (lol)
AUD: I thought I passed with flying colors, but I wasn't close!

I am considering doing both! I have not gotten deep into Auditing classes yet but from what I have been researching,I think I will like auditing more than taxation. I like the aspects of auditing more than doing taxes lol Plus I actually do not mind traveling to different clients(I know, that sounds crazy but its true)

🙂 You are so close! I would take the REG again and in the words of United States of Tara ” Make it your bitch!” xD

And heck, give yourself that extra appeal and salary booster by getting that CIA. Co. WILL pay more for the more certifications you have. I realize in Accounting they will pay for knowledge and experience!

@Kayleek, try Yeager, they use Wiley book and in my opinion are the best for REG. I had three failures in REG with Becker (64, 69, 69) and finally passed with Yeager. Start fresh like you never saw REG before and keep trying !!.

I am taking CIA now and honestly I thought the exam was a “piece of cake” like someone said in this forum. I started with Part 3 “the hardest part” It is not as easy, at least the material (I am using Gleim). There are over 1,000 for part 3 alone. The IT stuff has three entire chapters. Think of the CIA, at least part 3 using Gleim like this:

    Unit 1, 2= AUD + BEC

    Unit 3,4,5 = FAR + BEC

    Units 6,7 = BEC + REG

Units 8, 9, 10 = BEC (all IT stuff) tons of tons of IT stuff … I already reschedule it once and decide to go for it and see what the heck is this exam about …

    Good luck

@kayleek. You may work in internal audit right now, and think that you will work there forever, but you probably wont. These exams are about what the future will bring, how will the CIA benefit your career as an internal auditor, and how would being a CPA benefit you now, and in the future?

I think you need to move on to a different exam. I would try to take 2 exams per testing window, after you take one start studying for the next one, and if you failed do not stop and go back after you have already been studying. If your an internal auditor, take FAR then AUD, passing your first exam will give you motivation to keep going, and to move at a good pace.

    REG- 81
    BEC- 72,76
    AUD- 67,88
    FAR- 78

    Done!

Thank you for all the great comments and/or advices. I have made my decision and I am going a different route for now… I will be trying the CIA and reconsider taking the CPA again sometime next year when I am done with the CIA.

I think for now, the CIA is more beneficial for my job and my department. Right now, I have failed so many times with the CPA that it is hard to get the motivation that I need, but I know I should not give up on the CPA.

Good luck to everyone with the CPA!
