Advice needed on BEC retake

Help guys! I am really lost on how to proceed with studying for my BEC retake- To give you some background I was trending at 87% with an average of 81% on Ninja and averaged 92% on my Roger’s test bank. I have worked all of the questions in both banks and many of them multiple times to where I now know the answers. I just got my “oh so EFFING helpful” breakdown of my exam from NASB and on EVERY SINGLE breakdown I scored “stronger”- seriously WTH??? I failed with a 71. Now I am completely lost on where to go from here. I don’t think re-watching videos are going to help and I don’t know if I should buy another test bank or not. Do I just keep hitting the MCQ’s with Rogers and Ninja? Look for another test bank? Bang my head against a wall until all of my brains ooze out? Any helpful feedback would be great.

How is it even possible to get “stronger” in every category and not pass. I thought that the weaker, comparable, and stronger categories were based on candidates who scored between a 75 and 80?

FUBARFAR trust me when I say I am as confused as you…. I thought like you did- that it was in comparison to those who scored between 75 and 80 which is why I am so perplexed on the re-take… and it really honestly makes me mad. My FAR was “weaker” in every single category. Its like do they just print stuff on there and send it out… none of it is helpful to me… and in this case makes me very angry.

@circadian malfunction- thanks for those tips! especially the cpa exam review for free one. I did buy the ninja notes last time but didn't really utilize them as much as I did my own notes so I will also be hitting those.

@FUBARFAR- I actually did call this morning after I posted this and got a no satisfaction, make my blood boil, BS double speak about stronger could mean weaker depending on the quality of questions and standard deviation of the percentile and if I had any questions I could go to their website for further reading…blah blah blah – So I took it to mean that maybe I did stronger on the easier questions never getting to a hard testlett to get maximum points… man honestly I don't know. And yet they want to preach to us about transparency…

@c1oth- I walked out thinking I did fairly well- or at least “good enough to pass”- to be honest I was BEYOND devastated when I got my score… in fact I was stunned I had failed. I honestly don't know what more I could have done last time around which is what makes this time around so difficult.

May be you did not do well on written communication. Many people fail even if they are stronger on MCQS but poor on WC

Thats got to be the craziest explanation, that stronger could mean stronger- on weaker questions.

Just goes to show that nobody has a clue on how this exam is graded. I also got a 71, but was comparable on mcq's and weaker on WC. Scored weaker on operations management and strategic planning, comparable on IT and economics, and stronger on governance and financial management. I didn't feel like my testlets got harder on my first attempt and actually thought I did worse than a 71.

For my second attempt I felt like the second testlet was harder and the third wasn't as hard, but more difficult than the first. Had a ton of random IT questions that I never heard of and some weird COSO questions as well. I felt like I did better on the WC this time, but I had one that was straight from FAR and had no clue how to answer. If that wasn't a pretest then I'm screwed because I barely answered it.

The thing that really bothers me is that they know what review courses most people use and what they cover, so why even ask about things that aren't mentioned in any of them?

Techincally speaking you could do well on MCQs but weaker on WC and therefore fail this exam. I would suggest you to also focus on WC section for your retake and plan proper time allocation for WC.

@IB553, if I'm not mistaken you get a “stronger, comparable, weaker” score for all parts – including WC. if McKan actually got stronger on all parts then it probably wasn't WC. And even if they were stronger in MCQs it would be very unlikely they got 0 points on WC. Just my two cents. I would focus on COSO and IT,, and use outside resources to learn these topics… obviously the exam materials aren't quite working (for anyone taking BEC really.)
