Advice to learn more for my new job? (Investment accounting)

I recently started a job at a global mutual fund company. I’m essentially a financial statement analyst. We get F/S in from an outside source and look it over to make sure it looks right to submit to the market.

I have public accounting experience, but not in investment accounting. Anyone have any suggestions to take initiative to learn more so I can excel at my job?

    Thanks!

Curious if you do not have investment accounting experience, how do you get the job? Thought recruiters always want someone with very relevant experience.

I ran into the same issue when I worked for an investment bank/securities broker. There's so much to learn and very little of the specialized accounting is taught in school. I found the AICPA audit guides for investment companies to be very helpful. You could also check out Webcasts by the big 4. I know Deloitte sometimes has webcasts specifically for special topics impacting investment management, banking, mutual funds. Of course, these will be more common when there are significant changes to GAAP or other hot button issues.
