Anyone use Foothill College that isn’t in CA?

    Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone might be able to offer some advice to me. I’m in Colorado and I need to complete 9 upper level accounting credits by August, with one of those courses being in ethics. I’ve seen many people recommend Foothill College for that.

What I’m wondering is if courses taken their will be considered upper level courses in Colorado? Their semester timeline falls perfectly in what I need, but I just need to be sure courses I take there will be considered upper level accounting courses in Colorado.

Does anyone have any experience with this or other recommendations to offer?

    I appreciate any help!

I am in Colorado too and completed my ed requirements as a NC candidate. Because Colorado has such specific course requirements I have decided to get licensed by Montana then apply through reciprocity for a Colorado license. The ethics course and second semester of auditing course were the two that dissuaded me from obtaining initial license from CO. NASBA has confirmed this should work. I should hear from Montana board after their meeting on 31st if my license is approved.

You have online Colorado school options that I think would be cheaper as an in state student. Try CSU Global or others now that all are transitioning online.

    Good luck.

That's definitely an idea, but I think I need to be eligible through Colorado as I have a job offer and I believe that's what they're looking for.

I did try emailing NASBA and their response has me a little confused.

“Foothill College is a regionally accredited college, but a community college. Therefore, per board rule:

Coursework. The Board may deem coursework obtained from a non-accredited college or university as obtained from an Accredited Baccalaureate Granting College if the applicant demonstrates that the coursework would be acceptable for credit towards a Baccalaureate Degree or higher degree at an Accredited Baccalaureate Granting College.”

Honestly not sure what to take from that.

Are you asking about hours to sit for the exam or get a license? The transfer credit rule for community college to 4 year college is that no credits that would be at the 300/3000 (junior) level at the 4 yr college or above will transfer in from a community college; only credits in the 100/1000 or 200/2000 level will transfer. So this comes down to what is meant as upper level. Ask NASBA CO licensing what that means. I think it means 300/3000 level or above which would be in the major coursework level.

If all you are getting from NASBA are replies that cut and paste from the website, email

    Shelly Crosby
Associate Director, Client Services, National Association for State Boards of Accountancy, scrosby@nasba.org

and ask for a detailed answer. She was helpful to me when her staff just wanted to cut and paste from the website.

I need to have the hours required for licensing. From what you say, it sounds like Foothill may not be able to give me what I need. My understanding is 300 and above level courses. Thank you for that info though, I'll be sure to email her. Hopefully I can get a straight answer. Responses from NASBA so far do seem to be intentionally vague, which is frustrating.
