Hi,

I’m looking for a role in a tech/startup in San Francisco and I’m wondering if anyone here works there and can give an idea about compensation?
I’ve checked Robert Half and Glassdoor so have a guideline but these could be way off and salaries for accountants in tech are hard to come by as far as i can see.

Any salaries would be very helpful.

I have five years of experience in corporate (banking & insurance) gained outside of the US. From what I can see it looks like I would need to be applying for a Staff or Accountant role (not Senior) as i'm not getting much recognition for my experience.
One exam left to do, next week, and then it's full time applications and interviews.

I've applied for a few roles but mostly rejections at the screening level from in-house recruiters who in fairness do not appear to be interested in the call at all…

Any ballparks would be appreciated as I don't want to put out an unreasonable number when asked…

I am new to the bay area as well! I also have around 5 year investment banking experience. Salaries vary a lot depending on the position applied, company size and a lot different factors. I interviewed at a small consulting firm for a senior consultant position recently, my friend working there told me salary ranges from 85K to 100K for senior level. I heard industry pays higher than that for financial analyst positions. I normally try to google these kind of information before any interview. Glassdoor is pretty helpful.

I am curious about how much CPA makes at bay area as well, but this is also a rather personal question, I am not sure a lot people are comfortable to share:)

Staff Accountants in the Bay Area earn about 55k-75k, with 55k being entry level (minimal experience) and 75k being at least 2-3 years experience. Of course it also depends on the field you are in. I work in Bio-tech so generally they pay relatively well and I assume tech will be the same. Don't be afraid to ask for stock options (if public) and year end bonuses because it is pretty standard for companies in the Bay.

Once you get your CPA license and maybe 2-3 years of experience under your belt, you should be able to find a senior role that pays 90k-100k+ no problem.

Just an update on this. I had a call for a Staff Accountant role in Tech and was told the bands were 70-105 with an experience range of 2-8 years. But Tech so amazing benefits.
