I saw a thread like this for past years, so I’m starting one for 2018.

Here’s where I’m at so far:

2/26/18 — mailed in full application, with all requirements completed

    3/19/18 — $250 application fee check cashed

Now waiting for some type of word from the CBA.

Gotta say — the CBA is SUPER frustrating to deal with.

Anyone else going through the the same waiting game??

    I mailed my application 2/10

CBA cashed my check on 2/28

Received post card sometime in March (forget when)

Called CBA a couple weeks ago, they said wait until early May for the 30 day status letter.

They cashed my check fairly quickly…maybe 2 weeks after I sent it. Also, I received my “postcard” on 1/25/18.

Even when winning is illogical, losing still far form optional.

9/19/17: received last 2 passing scores
Feb 2018 and prior: sent everything other than application and work experience to CBA
2/05/18: work FedEx'd the experience form to them
    2/07/18: mailed application
    2/15/18: check was cashed
    2/24/18: received postcard
4/2/18: called for status and was told they were missing the criminal conviction disclosure form and that I could email it, so I did that day. Said they have everything else but my file hasn't been reviewed yet.

They mentioned they are so backed up that the letters that say you are in final review mean that you still have another 4-8 weeks to wait.

This is more frustrating than the actual exam process because it happens behind a curtain.

This is insane, it's 4/24 and they received my check on 4/6. Still nothing. They can't even take my money timely?

5/6 exactly 30 days after receiving my check…. the application person said they started processing the application but what happened to cashing my check? Why does that part take so long? I can't even get reimbursed by my firm until they cash that damn check at least.

I got a false alarm by a letter from the board on Friday – turned out to be my congratulations you passed the CPA letter. 5 months after I already passed….

I am also frustrated with CBA. I passed all the exams at the end of 2016 and started to send my application in Mar 2017 after I obtained my one year experience.

Then CBA informed me that I still lacked the ethics in accounting credits. So I enrolled the course and finished in Dec 2017. The school sent out my transcript in Feb 2018 and CBA sent me a letter in Mar saying they revived everything on Feb 26 2018. And they said the processing time would be 8 weeks.

I thought I would be able to get my license soon since it’s been a year already. But nothing. I just checked with CBA and I asked them it had been 11 weeks since you guys said my application was complete but how come I still didn’t get my license. They replied that due to the high volume it would take longer than usual.

What I don’t understand is that is the high volume pretty recent because suddenly a lot of people wanted to become CPAs? If not, why didn’t they hire more people to process the increased volume?
I hope there is some way to file complaints about their prolonged processing time.

What I didn't list below was done in 2017 (such as passing exams, ethics exam, transcripts, etc)

    4/26/18 live scan sent
5/2/18 application rec'd at CBA (via UPS tracking, not acknowledgement card)
5/8/18 emailed CBA asking why my check hasn't been cashed
5/9/18 per CBA, it takes 3~4 weeks for the application to go from the mail room to whoever that reviews it

as of today (5/13/18), my check hasn't been cashed.

    oh joy.

Sorry what is this ethics college course requirement that people above have been told AFTER the fact that they are missing? I graduated a long time ago so trying to figure out if this would apply to me as well.

Don’t they check all the requirements BEFORE qualifying you to take the exam? I remember sending in my transcripts when I first registered with CBA before appearing for any section. I need to resend transcripts after passing all 4 sections (if and when I do ha!)? Can someone please clarify? Thanks!

Ethics – I'd go to the handbook or download the self eval form to figure out what credits you are missing. It's pretty straightforward. Top of my head, I think you need 9 credit hours of ethics-related classes and 3 must be “Accounting Ethics”.

As far as I know, your academic requirements to take the exam is different from getting licensed (i.e. you need more credit hours to get your license).

Resending transcripts – the handbook says you “may” have to send them again. You can either wait and see what CBA says or just have your university resend it when you are ready to send your application in.

Anyways, 5/16/18 – my check still hasn't been cashed (application arrived at CBA on 5/1/18).

Hi all — I’m back with another update to my running timeline:

2/26/18 — mailed in full application, with all requirements completed

    3/19/18 — $250 application fee check cashed

4/7/18 — received postcard from CBA (postmarked 4/3/18) acknowledging they received my application

5/11/18 — received letter from CBA saying I need to work with the Illinois accounting board on verifying the license of the person signing off on my experience requirement

5/16/18 — mailed request to Illinois board for verification. Their estimate is 4 weeks. (CBA says once they get this they’ll need another 8-10 weeks for “final review”)

I can’t even! I think Start to finish this may end up being 6+ months….

    GoBears123,

Can you please explain why the CBA has asked you to verify your supervisor’s license with the Illinois board? Isn’t everyone’s CPA license info. public information? Why can’t the CBA just do a google search?
