Hi, I have the same question. I had nearly 1-year working experience for 1 Big4 as an auditor before I came to US, 4-year bachelor in accounting and auditing. Now, I'm on the way to conquer CPA. I have tried to apply for an accounting related jobs but have never got a reply. I'm so desperate, especially thinking that even CPA might not bring me a chance. Any advices? Thanks in advance.

Gonna be a CPA you can make adjustment of status if you find THAT employer, which should be a teeny-tiny problem, considering the fact that there are plenty of other unemployed accountants / CPAs.

Ideally, our domestic companies would hire U.S. workers. Just sayin'.

Accounting is being heavily outsourced to India, fellas, where three accountants work on a salary of one US accountant.

    Or so I've been told.

From what I experience in silicon valley for H1B, it's not really necessary that Americans can't fill the position, rather, companies just hire from out of country for other various reasons, mainly cultural and financial. I think the accounting industry is different, in that it's still controlled within US borders, mainly because it is owned by US partners. As a local, this is a major reason why I am now an accountant and no longer involved in tech, beyond doing their accounting work.

75 – you are right about outsourcing accounting roles. One of the companies I worked for had J/Es, payments, and reconciliations done in India but then all the F/S generated here in the states. It was too confusing, and I asked them why so?? Their answer was that those type of roles are clerical and non-value-added as per company's cost-effective policies. Out of a couple of thousands jobs opened with this company, there was not one accounting position and even if there was anything close, it would prefer a Finance-MBA.

I feel like CPAs are facing a new competition from Finance-MBAs since more positions require superior communication and multi-tasking skills.

As a foreigner,35 years old, if I complete CPA — after getting Greencard what are the chances of getting a job in accounting field. Many thanks? I have a bachelors in accounting and 8 years of experience as a Restaurant General Manager for a global chain in England and Scotland. Never worked in the accounting field. I am on H4 visa living in Virginia

My husband has a master's in accounting and hasn't worked in the field for 10 years. I wouldn't advise him to go after the CPA and switch career paths.

You keep asking us the same thing. Here's my answer (after looking into the glass ball), your chances of finding an accounting job at 35-40y, without any experience, even with a CPA, in this economy, are very slim.

If you really like accounting and really want to be a CPA, you'd do it anyway.

ok guys, in my opinion having a CPA helps a lot in getting a job…..i heard in this forum that people got so many job offers after they become a CPA. One person said he got three offers in three weeks in this economy ……….so if you have the time and the committment………go for it. Doesn't matter how old you are……….just go for it!
