Hi guys, this is my 4th attempt to take the cpa but I am 32 and I was wondering if career wise this is the right move? I have an acct background, and work in acct/finance and I really want to take the and pass the test. Two years ago I started on it but I lost my cousin so I took time off to really to focus on myself. This time I am focused and determined!!

absolutely worth it! this sets you apart from others in the field and really gives you a leg up. I was nearly 40 when I got licensed this past August… Good luck!

I just got mine at 34. If you're in public accounting, you can't get promoted beyond Senior without it. I image you've only been in the job market for 8-10 years and realistically, you're going to work at least another another 30 years. You're not even half way through your professional career, so I would say it's still worth pursing. Eventually when you apply to upper level positions in accounting, you are going to be put against other people who undoubtedly will have their CPA.

    I didn't quit.

Yes, go for it! I first attempted when I was 26 and failed. I started over with a new commitment and passion when I was 30. I was 32 when I passed my final exam and I was one month away from my 33rd Birthday when I got my official license from my state.

Now I’m 34 and working on the CMA Exam. You’re never too old. These certifications especially the CPA license can change your career dramatically.

I didn't even start until I was almost 35. I chose that route partly because these things are expensive, and I was too immature to commit that much time to studying.. I'm currently 36, and most likely won't get licensed until I turn 37. Like, another poster said, you're not even half way through your career. Go for it!

I'm 35, i just moved over from Ireland and couldn't do the accounting exams there, dragged on and on and finally gave up. It really held me back in my career, was offered a promotion and team lead if i got it but never came to pass
I'm not going to make the same mistake here , 2 down, 2 to go, aim to be wrapped up by Thanksgiving.
You'll always regret it if you don't- stick in there, its worth it

YES! YES! YES! Do it. There is no such thing as too late. It's a professional credential worth pursuing. It's not going to be easy, if it were everyone would do it. And that is exactly what will set you apart from everyone else. ALSO, the credential could always lead into something else down the road – software implementation, consulting, teaching, etc. The list goes on. Go for it – 32 is REALLY young. When you get to 40, you will regret not going for it. Trust me……I know.

Same boat I'm 37 and 3/4 complete. I don't have my CPA yet but there's no question there is demand for it, even in the private sector. Also, the first question most people ask when you tell them you're an accountant is if you're a CPA. I'm tired of having to say no to that question.

Oh getoutta here! All my friends in grad school are like 29-34 and all are working on the license! i'm 31 and still in school (10 more weeks!!!) just started working in audit in Jan, did few months of tax before.. I know majority starts earlier and have their careers in full swing by time they hit 30.. I served in the army and raised my kid on my own.. it's been tough to finish school and go into masters while working full time. I dont think you should be worried about your age and cpa exam. You actually want it and apply yourself vs when you're 22 fresh and wild not knowing WTH you're doing with your life.

Go for it. I'm probably not a good person to ask (22), but I can tell you of all the professionals I have met, I have NEVER heard someone say they wish they hadn't finished the exams or that it wasn't worth the struggle.
    – I know it sounds cliche, but the opportunities with a CPA license really are endless.
