Does the order of journal entries matter?

So I just took Becker’s final exam #1 for FAR, and I scored 86 90 80 on the MCQs but only a 62% average on the sims… going through them, I found out a big reason why? For one questions I had all the journal entries correct by amount and account, but apparently put them in the wrong order. Example, I had:

    Dr cash for correct amount

Dr acc. dep. for correct amount

    Cr. PP&E for correct amount

    Cr. gain for correct amount

But I got 0/8 points because Becker expected the journal entry to go like this:

    Dr acc. dep.

    Dr. cash

    Cr. gain

    Cr. PP&E

Is there some correct order for journal entries that I just never learned (besides debits coming first)? Or is this just Becker not allowing for people to switch it up, but I should be fine on the exam?

Sorry if this is a stupid question!

    AUD (5/29/12): 89 | REG (7/2/12): 87 | FAR (8/30/12): ?? | BEC (10/6/12): ??)

You entry is fine and will be marked correct on the exam. JE order doesn't matter as long as you put debits first.

I've always done my entries in the order they would appear on the BS/IS, but I don't know if there is actually a rule for how you are supposed to do it. The end result is the same no matter the order.

According to the e-mail I received from the AICPA when I asked this very same question, the answer is no. Here is the e-mail in its entirety. I am removing the customer service reps name and e-mail address but other than that, this is it word for word. I realize that it does say at the very bottom that any disclosure is prohibited but I guess I'll chance it to make sure we all have the facts and my integrity isn't called into question.

    RE: CPA Exam Inquiry

    Dear Ms. Mitchell,

We are following up regarding your inquiry about the general format of journal entries on the CPA Exam.

It doesn't matter what order the Debit/Credit responses are entered in as long as the proper corresponding debits and credits are provided with each response.

We apologize for the delayed response. We appreciate you taking the time to research this information and look forward to serving you in the future.

    Kind regards,

    BEC - Passed

Blank means blank. Zero means zero. Blank does not mean zero.

On the blank/zero input I have had exams say if the response is zero leave it blank so I followed the instruction and left it blank. Helped me on FAR for sure
