I take BEC Friday and am using Roger. I absolutely hate cost accounting and the variances, and am having a hard time getting the concepts. I just feel like there are so many formulas and when I read a question i struggle with knowing where to begin at times.

Typically there is a topic or two that I struggle with and my approach has been to learn what I can but not to dwell on it. I try to really master the other areas I’m confident in to make up for the ones I’m lacking in.

With BEC I’m solid on economics, IT and corporate governance. Breakeven and ratios I’m comfortable with. But good lord aspects of cost accounting and overhead variances kick me right in the nuts. I’m trending 70-80% on the other areas and 50% on the areas I struggle in.

Any tips to help me feel like I can pull this off in 5 days? Anyone else feel similar?

Do you have a notes source that you use? I used Ninja Notes for BEC but you can also get Wiley Focus Notes and a few others. Ninja helped solidify concepts for me that were nebulous. It was my baseline from which I could branch out.

The reason these notes are helpful is that they are high level enough to convey a concept without needing to know the hocus pocus behind it. Many times if you know those concepts you can derive the right answer yourself.

The exam is like a predatory animal – it smells fear and you can expect questions in the fear zone.

Also – another delightful person in interwebs land uploaded her prep notes – search “bec exam notes” and you may find a treat. I think there's value in comparing different sources and how they encapsulate what is really quite a challenging exam in its own right.

I'm using Roger. I used him for REG and supplemented with Ninja notes and MCQ. I did not find the Ninja notes very helpful but I did find value in working through the MCQs.

I know I haven't given myself enough prep time on this one, I need a week to grasp each of these topics instead of 2 days.

You passed REG. I think you will cruise through BEC if you put little more efforts understanding the concepts.
