Failed FAR

As anticipated, I failed FAR this attempt with a 66. This was due to leaving an entire testlet blank on sims (ran out of time), and the sims being from hell in general. This is directly after a 73 attempt in Q2. The decline in score tells me that my previous study method was more effective, which was using only Roger lecture, testbank, sims etc. I pretty much switched entirely to Ninja MCQs for this attempt and did about 1,200 MCQ‘s and lots of sims. I think Ninja is VERY good and tends to have harder MCQs than Roger, the hang up was the FAR exam this time around. It was an absolute beast, nothing was even similar to my previous two attempts.

I’m frustrated that I had such a poor showing this time around but plan to start new on Monday and to retake in October.

CONTINUOUS TESTING CANNOT COME SOON ENOUGH!

You got this! I truly believe that 75% of conquering this exam is figuring out the best way to study for you, personally. With a 66, it sounds like if you had gotten around to the last testlet of SIMS, you would have had a shot at passing. Especially with a 73 first time around.

Elkguy do not be discouraged. I had already passed 3 sections 2.5 years and all of those expired and had to start from scratch and am finally done. I used Becker and watched each page of the lecture and immediately read that particular page from the book and made sure I understood the concept in and out. If I did not understand something, I would go to Youtube and look for videos related to the topic. There is this guy on Youtube ( forgot his name) but he has free lectures on Intermediate accounting which is defnitely applicable to FAR which actually helped me understand most of the concepts that becker was doing a lousy job with. Also, just my suggestion, I would not jump straight to mcqs because although you will understand the reason for why you got a particualr question wrong, after 2 3 attempts of the same question, you would memorize the answer which I think is sort of counterproductive. So my suggestion is hammer the concept by reading the book and lecture, memorize the entries(if needed) and then jump to the MCQs. In terms of SIMs, I did not any SIMS practice at all since they are roll of a dice in the exam. Also, make sure you focus on Non monetary transactions. You will most likely get at least 1 or 2 MCQ or a SIM on it. Good luck!!

    AUD - 93
    BEC - 82
    FAR - 80
    REG - 83

@IreneZ sheesh, id say close to 500 hours of studying for FAR. I have been at it since January of this year (minus big 4 busy season). The key with FAR is to stay relaxed and confident. If you can accept losses on some MC's and move on you have a great chance of passing. I had let the clock get the best of me on both exams. Good luck you will do just fine.

I wish I could tell you something that will make you feel better about this. Receiving a failing score can really rock you but you have to keep moving forward and take this time to really go back and figure out your study method and/or study material.

If I can ask, on all of the topics that you studied how well did you know them? Would you be able to teach these topics to someone if you had to?
That is how I gauged whether I knew something. I found myself purposely avoiding certain topics because they literally hurt my head but those were the topics I went back to and really hit hard. It took me having to use my study guide (Wiley) then if that wasn't enough I went on youtube. There are a lot of excellent tutorials on topics that are covered in the exam. I primarily studied test bank questions from Wiley. All MCq, I did some Sims. For me personally, I thought all of the questions were not as in depth as what I had studied. Even the sims, I had sims that had a lot of exhibits to go through, which is a pain but I didn't think the nature of the problem was complex. I did however run out of time and left one blank. I got lucky and passed with an 86.
