Failed REG! Planning for retake

So I failed REG. I tested back in May 2017. I thought I passed but came up short with a 69. Granted, I didn’t study both business law chapters or attempted a single SIM.

For this retake, I plan on studying business law and attempting several SIMS to get a grasp on how the material is tested.

Can someone tell me how they studied for REG? Especially if you had to retake. What did you different? I plan on using two months to get ready. Should I rewatch the lectures? Or just use my handwritten notes and hit the MCQ’s and SIMS? Thanks for any help you can provide.

I've technically passed it but it expired. My strategy was reading around 20 pages at a time and then writing notes after. After completing the chapter I would do MCQs and SIMS for the related chapter and try to understand the questions I answered incorrectly. Rinse/repeat until I've completed them and usually tried to complete the whole round with two weeks to spare. The last two weeks I would go back and quick study the notes as well as try to implement easier ways to remember things such as mnemonics and formulas and complete another round of MCQs and SIMs.

    Hi guys.

They gave me 69 too ! Did they give everyone the same grade after 3 months hold or what?

Now when can I retake the exam and how many times can I retake it?

My FAR credit expires on 11/18/2017 and REG is the only section I did not pass.

    Thanks for helping.

When I had to re-take it, i treated it almost like I was new to the material. AS Jeff always says you can't just assume you are “X” amount of points away, you should treat it as a new exam. Personally after taking a test its hard for me to recall what I studied months ago, even if its 2 months. So treated REG like a new section and scrapped by with a 76. In my firm audit and tax are totally separate so I had very little if any tax experience, so a 76 felt like a 99.

    Good Luck!

@STP and @tskits75 for those helpful tips. I'll definitely use them for this retake.

@CPAgoal2017 I am definitely reading all the chapters again, work through the MCQ's about 3x's and review SIMS. I plan on taking 10 weeks to get ready since this might be my last exam if I pass AUD next month. I use Becker and think it's great, but I might also supplement NINJA material.

I think you can register for the exam now and test in Q3. However, scores won't come back until December 11th. You can retake as many times, but you might want to contact your state board and tell them your FAR credit expires before your REG score is released and since if they will grant you an extension.

I failed reg in May with a 73… Used Becker only… for my re-take, I supplemented with Ninja. I focused ALOT more on sims, because my failing score report indicated I did weak on sims. I ended up with an 86 on REG this past score release.

Not trying to sound harsh, but if you want to pass you should probably study ALL the material. Everything has the same likelihood of being tested.

I would recommend getting used to the AL, if you have the time the AL is extremely helpful, for REG especially. I was able to find the answers to a lot of the SIM questions by simply looking through the AL.
