Took FAR yesterday… good lord that thing is a monster! Definitely had NO idea about 1 SIM and spent about 40 minutes on another SIM (I had a lot of time on the last testlet) reading through the authoritative literature to try and understand a topic that the review software had never even mentioned, so that was fun!

Not feeling too great about it overall.. Multiple choice felt shaky and I couldn’t tell if it got harder or easier on the second testlet, lol.

I am taking the exam very soon and was just wondering if you happen to have any last minute advice about what to look over or spend my time on prior to the exam.

Did you get and DRS questions? When I took it 4th quarter 2017 I got one DRS, but in the first quarter 2018 I didn't.

lmfao, did you get any DRS questions. In terms of format of the exam, I feel like second half of 2017 was a test run. Same with Q1 2018. It is full court press now. Expect 4-5 DRS SIM questions. That is not an exaggeration. You need to budget your time better than ever before to give yourself an opportunity at answering the question. It take anywhere between 10-12 minutes just to read through the docs and the question itself in order to gauge what is being asked of you. This is no joke, FAR DRS SIMs are here to stay, so heed my advice: Don't over-study. That can be tough with FAR given the sheer breadth of material. Know your stuff, be well rounded, don't get caught up in the minutia. You need to bang through the MCQ relatively quickly, I'm telling you, leave yourself 2 hours to answer the SIMs. I took FAR for the first time April 30. I wish I got this advice going in, I would have approached the exam slightly different. All in all I feel like I did enough to pass, but you never know. I was left with 60 mins to answer 6 SIMS, knowing 1 was Research. Banged that out in 5 minutes, answered the other 3 roughly took me 20 mins each.. left 2 SIMs totally blank, however relatively confident in the SIMs that I did answer so it's now just a waiting game. Best of luck to you.

I'm taking that ish tomorrow and am nervous AF all of a sudden. I have definitely improved from the 69 I got in January, but the sim horror stories are freaking me out. Sometimes I wish I didn't read this forum because it definitely produces some negative vibes

I agree with @FK122. I took it in April and my SIMs were mostly DRS. I got an authoritative literature lookup SIM or whatever you call them on my fifth testlet and damn near yelled out loud for joy. ridiculous! I actually left one SIM blank for the sake of time. I read that SIM five times and every time I finished, my response was, “WHAT?!” I ended up finishing with 2 minutes left on the clock.

I think people have different views on what a DRS SIM is. I've always thought of a DRS SIM as the type of SIM that is in letter format and the candidate has to review it and change the blue text.

There are two types of SIMS. Simple SIMS which are the quick answer SIMS and involve no documents to review. Im expecting between 2-3 of these. Then there are Enhanced SIMS which are the SIMS where we must review documents to answer the SIM. The Document Review Simulations DRS fall under the enhanced SIM category.

I think @FK122 is referring to DRS SIMS as all SIMS with documents that candidates must review to answer to SIM. To answer @Turo question, I am expecting at least 1 of the DRS SIMS when I sit Saturday.

Wiley provides free resources to go over all the different types of SIMS and strategies to help maximize points. You guys should check them out.

IMO, the DRS sims aren't all that bad. They are just time consuming but you can usually find the answers and a lot of times they seem simple if you know how to look through the documents. The AICPA tried to mimic real life accounting with the DRS

I am confused- how many total sims are we going to have? Would DRS and Old Sims (meaning the one's that we used to have) will be 50% each?

    It's a total of 8 sims – 2 in the 3rd testlet, 3 each in the 4th and 5th testlets

OH DRS is Document Review Sim? 3 of the 8 were not DRS… which seems pretty standard.

Just took FAR today.. it was very comprehensive in covering everything. Overall I feel better than my last attempt. Those sims are something else to try to complete in time.. I think you literally need 4 hours for them haha. I got logged out but luckily I pretty much had everything completed
