1st full week of studying for my retake. I jumped right into Ninja MCQ, and about half way done. My average score is 78-the topics I am weak on are no surpise. I started to re-write my own notes today, but that was so de-motivating, I didn’t get very far. Tomorrow I need to re-write my notes (they are disjointed from my first test, I want to re-write them by topic in a new notebook). I really need to re-read my Becker book on acquisitions, equity method, and non-monetary exchanges so far. My plan is to get through the rest of the Ninja MCQ by end of next week, and re-write the rest of my notes. I then plan on printing out Ninja notes (didn’t utilize last time) and then jump into SIMS, while re-doing the missed MCQ in Ninja and continue re-reading the book. How are others approaching their re-take?

Hello! Just checking in. I feel like I'm the only one taking this exam in April…urgh.. those who go before me please keep checking in LOL.

This week has been a flop. I just wrote out my study plan from now until test day. Yup, down to the which modules to tackle on which days. It looks a little obsessive, but it's what I need to stay on track. I'm a visual person and have to see things on paper. I was able to give myself 3 weeks for final review.

For those who supplement with Ninja, at which point should I purchase the subscription? I'm currently working through Becker F6. I wonder if I could rewrite the ninja notes in lieu of taking my own???

So I took FAR yesterday and man I don’t know. I spent too much time on the MCQs and the first testlet and had only 90 minutes to get through testlets 4-5. I never finished one SIM as a result.

So mnage your time well everyone. And get a good nights sleep!!! My 1 year old was crazy sick the night before and husband helped out but I was up a lot during the night and went in with a foggy brain. This was my 4th FAR retake but I prepared the most for it. I didn’t study really for retakes 2 and 3 but somehow how got in 70s.

This forum has been a blessing. Good luck.

@Big4BeanCounter-Revenue Recognition ones, bonds, leases, stockholder's equity, taxes come to mind for Skills Practice.
@msquared17-I have never re-written someone else's notes, and honestly didn't really love Ninja Notes-they are very high level, not specific-Becker Unit outlines make for a much better note packet than that. I took my own notes and then re-wrote them in my own words for all the big topics two days before the test. I think once you get through Becker, jump into Ninja-this will be your extended review phase:)

@anyatver – I was thinking I would keep writing my own notes. It has actually helped. I'll wait until I finish f8 before adding Ninja. My plan is to take a couple of days to review f1-f8 before starting govt.

    thanks

So I weenied out and rescheduled for April. My schedule had gotten very hectic. When I study I am so anxious with the little time I have. I needed to calm down. Get the info marinated in my mind and pass. Keep those fingers crossed for me. April is a not turning back, my nts will expire then, but it is more than enough time to get it and get it right.

@Tncincy-i think that's a great decision! This test is just one of so many other things we have to deal with and you don't need the extra stress!

Agreed that's a great move. Actually, it's perfect. That way, you can schedule yourself for a final review (2 weeks prior your exam day)

Looks like we both might be taking this beast on the same month! Lol, unless CalBoA keeps bringing me down..

FAR - 65 (Planned rematch on Apr/May 2018 'cuz CalBOA is turtle slow)
    AUD - 2/10/18 (Roger MCQ/TBS, 5 weeks prep) - Pending...

My FAR exam is in 2 days!! Been trying to retain as much info as possible in my head. Is there any other areas I should master before going in?? I pretty much review everything from cover to cover as well as NFP and Government. I am using Becker and Ninja Audio btw

Hey, I am week 2 into my FAR re-take studying and thought I'd share my new study method, which I think is helping: 5 days a chapter – using Becker
Day 1 and 2) With the annotated textbook open, I am going through my old notebook and rewriting/condensing my notes to reflect only those topics that have annotations next to them in the module's text and supplemental info from my notebook. I then take what I think are important concepts from these new notes and create flash cards on white index cards. I run through these whenever I have a spare 10-15 minutes.
Day 3 and 4) I now do the MCQs, module by chapter. As I do them, I pay very particular attention to whether a topic is addressed in the questions more than once. If so, I then create a new index card of a random color with that topic. The idea is that by the time I hit review, the stack of multicolored index cards are the most important topics.
Day 4 and 5) I finish up the MCQs and do the SIMS, creating flashcards with pointers etc from the sims as well.

    Hope this helps anyone!

@Tncincy and J King – We are all taking it around the same time. I agree that moving it to April was a good idea. I had to move mine to April as well. I felt much better after making that decision. We still have real world stuff to deal with during this process. I came up with a good study plan on Saturday and I'm already a day behind. LOl Luckily, I built in some extra time to make up for things like this. If I can stay awake long enough to crank out two modules I will be back on schedule.

    @jiantang25
, take it a bit easy tomorrow. Reread your notes/book. Maybe very light MCQ and get rested for the big day. You got this!

I came up with a new study method as well, and it involves waking up at 4:30am everyday to either make notes (typed on Google docs) from book or hit the MCQs, which I never done before, then read notes during commute or some idle time. I used Gleim TB and Roger, so 20 MCQs from Gleim and 10 from Roger. Do at least half of MCQs done on Gleim in each Study Unit then move on to the next one. I would also do some kind of progress test where I would set MCQs from old chapters to see if I remember them well. I think I have a pretty solid study method compared to last time that was just watch lectures then drill MCQs like no tomorrow, which I realized it isn't a effective way to study for FAR..

I’m feeling a lot worse about the FAR exam I took a few days ago, mainly bc im realizing I did poorly on more questions than I previously recollected. I think I got most TBS only 40-50-60% correct, none that were 100 percent right. I feel like I did decent in comparison on the MCQs. Did anyone pass the exam after feeling like they did average to below average on SIMs?

you guys are rocking and rolling!
@jiantang25-good luck-read notes, do some MCQ, try to remain calm!
@allsheneeded-try not to beat yourself up-there is no way of knowing what your score will look like-best not to think about it, it's over…I am convinced I failed again, but then again, I have always felt this way and was only right once:) LOL!
