I’m looking for recent experiences with obtaining one’s license in VA (I did search of the forum but it didn’t come up with much of anything). I just finished my exam and took my ethics exam as well. I’ve faxed over my experience form and my certificate from the ethics exam. I’ve also completed the online application and paid the application fee. Any idea on how long it will take for them to process the information and issue my license? (I know they’re closed today for the holiday.)

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I submitted experience and ethics exam forms on 8/14 and my license was issued on 8/22. You should be able to see your license number on their website 1 or 2 weeks before receiving the certificate by mail.

@Marivy. Thanks so much for the information. I'm glad to hear that it should be a short wait. Hopefully I'll be licensed by the end of the month (taking Thanksgiving into account and all). Congratulations on your license!

Other than the experience form and ethics certification, do we have to submit the official transcripts from schools to VBOA as well? I just filled out the application and paid the fee, I don't know what to expect next… Will we get an email regarding what information they need? Thanks 🙂

I'm waiting on everything to show up on the VBOA Checklist. I submitted everything last Friday, nothing yet.

@stefiva3 – I received an email from them yesterday evening that included information about what was needed. There is also a CPE form that has to be signed an sent to them to acknowledge that your are aware of VA's policy. The email also stated that they will contact you if they need additional transcripts.

@msgolds – I submitted my first piece of info on Friday (immediately after receiving my BEC score). I sent the remaining info in on Monday and then the CPE form yesterday evening since I had been unaware of it before. The BOA was closed Monday for the holiday and Tuesday for a staff development day. Yesterday they finally updated my score on the site and sent the email confirming receipt of my application. The only item reflected on my checklist is the receipt of my payment.

Same. I called the Board, and they said that it might take a while for things to get processed because the employee who normally processes the faxed documents was out all last week. She said their goal was to be caught up by tomorrow.

@msgolds – thanks for that info! At the encouragement of my coworkers I had just sent an email to them thanking them for confirming my application, and asking for them to confirm receipt of my documentation and to possibly provide an idea as to how long it will take them to process it.

What are my next steps ? I currently live in TX

@23K – I wish I could be more help, but I originally applied more than 4 years ago and don't remember exactly how the initial process went. However I can say that once everything is approved and you receive your payment coupon and make the payment, your NTS should be issued quickly. (As a re-exam candidate, each time I applied for a section I would have my payment coupon the next morning and then my NTS the next day.)

I got my VA license back in August. It took about one week after VBOA received my exam scores, school records, employment verification and ethics score.
