    Hi,

I took FAR back in August, and did not pass, so I switched to REG and took that exam last Friday. I am now looking into getting back into FAR. My question to you is, should I go through all of the material, front to back, again? Or start doing MCQs and finding my weak areas?

What was your score the first time around?
If you were close you might get away with doing massive amounts of MCQs, but August was a long time ago.
If it were me, I would start from scratch. If you really know a topic, you can skim it, but remember the devil is in the details.

AUD-88 12/7/17 (3 wks, 85 hrs, Roger 1000 MCQs no SIMs hail mary)
    REG-96 1/18/18 (6 wks, 110 hrs, 1400 MCQs, no SIMs)
    BEC-91 2/16/18 (4wks, 90 hrs, 1240 MCQs)

I scored a 51, but I feel part of that was because I spent too much time, ~3 months reading/note taking and not enough practice. You are right though, August was a long time ago. I'll probably just end up doing it from scratch.

    Thank you for your input.

Do you feel the study process you used for REG was a better fit?

MCQ practice is the most important process of passing these exams. The SIM practice doesn't really translate in my opinion, but become a pro at MCQs.

The lectures help; they are important, but I wouldn't get too hung up in the lectures.

Yes, my study process for REG was a better fit, but I enjoy the tax aspect, so I am sure that helped. Previously, it was like I was re-writing the text. I was able to spend adequate time on the MCQ, which definitely helped bring everything together. I have mixed feelings on SIMs, since I feel that MCQ only hit 1 part of a concept, whereas SIMs test the concept as a hole, but I was still focusing on MCQ.

I don't tend to watch the lectures anymore, unless it is something I don't truly understand. I find it more efficient and effective for me to simply read the ext.

I would definitely start from scratch. In particular, I would hone in on your weak areas (as indicated by your score report). As much as people say it's important to hammer MCQs, it's just as crucial to really understand the material (concept wise) in the text. Best of luck!

Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, "Move from here to there," and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.

Thank you for your input, and I am beginning to lean towards starting from scratch, which is perfectly fine. It may even help reinforce other material that may still be in my brain haha. Best of luck to you too! I hope that REG score is a passing score!
