New BEC may not be a terrible thing?

So, I found out last night that I failed BEC for the second time (72 and 70), and this was the last chance to pass before entering the new exam phase. I am taking the optimistic route by talking myself into believing that the new test format may not necessarily be a bad thing. Sure, 4 hours sucks, but I truly believe that the sims saved my butt and gave me the 76 that I needed to squeak by in AUD. I don’t think the same for REG, but I am a tax accountant. I absolutely hate MCQ, and I know I can ace the written portion of BEC in my sleep, therefore I’m thinking that my downfall comes with the lack of sims in BEC. So ultimately I think that this new BEC exam may turn out to work in my favor, and give me more room to mess up, if you will.

I know everyone has different strengths, weaknesses, etc so I was just wondering if anyone who has to face the 2017 BEC, whether taking it for the first time or as a retake after taking the older version had any similar thoughts. =)

I found out last night that I got 73 on BEC. I will be retaking it April 1 or 2. I hate WC because I have never been a good writing. So, I guess I am “looking forward” to it.

Got my BEC score today and failed with a 73.
Do you think it’s worth appealing?
Do you think the wirtten communication part was manually reviewed as I got a close score or was it initially verified by a computer?

    Would appreciate your comments/opinions.

    Thanks

    @Michael

No one has ever appealed their score and got it reversed to change a pass/fail, so I would say no.

it's a waste of time and money.

    FAR: 75

Well, I am beginning to think so as well….I am scheduled for BEC on the 7th. I have been on and off study since Dec. I was supposed to be ready before tax season, no go. Many things has happened since then, and I have posted about it….the replies were buckle down, 200 mcq's per day, etc. I am absolutely trying to stay on track, but I can't seem to get 200 mcq's done in one day. I broke it down in smaller numbers, and the more I try, the more anxious I am. So I though see if there are any seats open to reschedule to April 1st. NOT ONE. So I know how it is when you just don't feel ready, and really hate to fail again. But at the rate I am going the new format might be my friend. I am not giving up at all.

You can't schedule for reg or bec before March 11th.

The new BEC doesn't seem appealing. Simulations on the BEC material seem miserable to me (Cost accounting ugh). The writing section was just a freebie if you could write well enough.

^^I agree, BEC was the easiest exam by far for me and a big reason was because it had WC instead of SIMS….just my opinion though, people struggle with different things..

    FAR - 76

my nts expires 4/24 so I should be able to reschedule, if not here goes another try. I also hear that there are so many calculations now…IMP too many to remember….still not giving up.

Even if your NTS expires in April, I believe you can only take 1 test per testing window… meaning any other attempt of said test has to be down in the following window. I read they are looking to change that rule perhaps, but nothing yet

It doesn't matter that your NTS expires in April; because of the changes happening specifically to REG and BEC starting Q2, no one is able to schedule a test date later than March 10 for REG or BEC until March 11.

My nts expire in april 9th, just hopefully can find a seat by then.

I would agree to some extent. Prior to my recent passing score I have consistently scored within the 70s when passing BEC. since the test weighed so heavily on MCQs, missing some questions could have hurt you more in the past. Just make sure you master the written response. I consistently get stronger on the written response not because I know what they are asking, instead I know how to respond. IF you are getting 73s and 74s and you haven't mastered the written response, you are missing easy points. Sims will be helpful to get extra points by leaving partial answers, but make sure to leave enough time for he written response.

@ayodele do you mind to share some of the tips on written response. Writing essays are my weakness.thank you!
