So I found out that I scored a dreaded 74 on BEC.

I used the following study method (8 weeks of studying; 200 hours):
    1) Watch a chapter of Roger lectures and take notes in the book.

    2) After watching each full chapter of lectures, I read the chapter.

    3) Once I got through all of the lectures I went back and summarized the entire book in my own words. Came out to about 30 pages. Then I went back and did an even more condensed version that was 15 pages.

    4) Went through all of the Ninja MCQ (using the new questions only option). Every couple days I would chose the option to see the questions I missed last time and went through those until I answered them all correctly. Took me about 2 weeks to get through all of the questions and answer them all correctly at least once.

    5) Reset Ninja MCQ and started from scratch so that my scores were more reflected of what I knew. I did all of the Ninja MCQ once again and reached the final review stage.

    6) Made about 100 note cards with just formulas and reviewed them daily until I was able to memorize all of them.

    7) Read my Ninja notes daily.

    8) For my final review, I did the following (I took 2 weeks for my final review):
    a) Printed out my detailed score report and did MCQ in subcategories below 70 until I got at least a 70 in all subcategories. Then I did the same thing but for all subcategories under 75. Once all was said and done, I had an overall average of 78% and a 100% trending score and did about 5,000 questions.
    b) I rewrote my 15 page note sheet.
    c) Read my Ninja notes
    d) Went through my formulas flashcards

I thought my method was fool proof but obviously I was wrong. I want to retake my BEC exam at the end of May but I’m not sure where to start. Should I rewatch the lectures? Should I buy a cram course? Since I’m so familiar with the Ninja MCQ, should I get a new test bank (I was thinking about getting Gleim test bank)? I don’t know what my next move should be and was hoping someone could give me some advice!

Sorry to hear abt your score. You were so close. I also used Rogers and failed BEC. I'm thinking of supplementing with another review course. Just don't know yet which one I should go with. Did you find NINJA MCQ more challenging than Rogers?

@cpa1982 I didn't even bother with Roger MCQ since Ninja MCQ are more difficult and IMO prepare you better.

    GinjaNinja,

Did you find Rogers book helpful in answering MCQ? Few people here complained saying a book is not well written in compare to other CPA review course. I never tried another review course so I don't know. I'm thinking to supplement with another test bank and probably buy another book. Not sure which one.

@cpa1982 I have never tried another review course either so it's hard to say. I have only used Roger and supplemented with Ninja MCQ, Ninja Notes, and Ninja audio.

I was looking through my coworker's Becker BEC book from 2011 and it seemed alot more organized than Rogers. Roger excels in his lecture style but his book does not seem the best from what I've seen.

    GinjaNinja,

I also enjoyed his lectures but at the moment not sure how much it would help me to go back and review his lectures. Wish I had not bought the whole package.

@cpa1982 I don't regret buying Roger but I do recommend supplementing his course with a Ninja MCQ. Also if you commute more than 20 min to work everyday, Ninja audio is definitely worth it! I also recommend Ninja notes. The notes do a great job of summarizing everything and keeping it fresh as you progress through the material.
