Problem with State Board

    Hi All,

For those of us that have tests in expiring in Q3, the scoring delay for Q2 will likely prevent some of us from taking the test in Q3 before our tests expire.

As a result, you might only have 1 chance at a retest when you should have 2 for Q2 and Q3.

I emailed the PA State Board asking if an extension would be given like the NASB person whom I was talking to told me to ask. The board responded that NO extension will be given to PA test takers for that reason.

I was curious if anyone elses state had ruled on this matter? No extension seemed harsh for those of us that this affects. If your state did provide a grace period or extension, could you point me in the direction of the material that says when or why your state ruled on this matter?

My state board has taken the same stance. This makes absolutely zero sense to me. All you can do is pass the exam now. I tried to escalate and was told you can not talk to management because there is nothing to talk about.

I dread emailing mine- I just have to pray that I pass this thing next week…. it is so beyond upsetting to think about.

And they ask me why I drink

    BEC 71, 82
    AUD 75
    REG 75
    FAR 61, 69, 83

and they ask me why I drink...

FAR- 61-next time I'll ask for lube instead of a calculator
REG-75- Never been so happy to see such a low grade
    BEC- 8/11
    AUD- 9/2

Same situation here, my first exam credit expires almost the same day that Q2 scores are released. I was thinking of emailing my state board, but based on what you guys are saying, that's probably just a waste of my time.

It's really disappointing. We've got one shot when we normally would have two, which can mean the difference between finishing and being delayed an additional number of months. Ugh!

    FAR - 87 x1

Hey guys, thanks for your replies.

I followed up with the State Board with the following argument.

Pretty much I said the board, by not extending expirations are depriving individuals the 18 months guaranteed under Reg Section 11.16(b). For July expirations, we are only given 16 months and 15 for August expirations.

I'll let you know when I hear back.

    REG: 74/76
    FAR: 75
    AUD: Early April 2016
    REG: Late April/Early May 2016.

Good reasoning there! It seems so unreasonable for them not to give us even a month extension…

Subsection (f) is pretty interesting as well.

” (f) Notwithstanding the requirements of subsections (a)—(c), the Board may extend the term of a candidate’s conditional credit upon the candidate’s showing that the conditional credit expired by reason of circumstances beyond the candidate’s control.”

Though they throw the word “may” in there

    REG - 80

Iceman6 – where is that from? I'd like to be able to quote that if I email my state.

Its under the Pennsylvania Code, in the same section that superhenderson posted, Reg Section 11.16(f). If you google it, it should come up

    AUD - 79
    BEC - 77
    FAR - 78

Board is saying they will not grant extensions because you have not been PREVENTED from taking an exam yet. So basically they are saying you can only submit request in Q3 after your credit expires and pray to the lord that they grant it. Funny that this stance is going to pressure people into taking rushed exams in Q1 when they likely wouldn't have tested if they had two quarters to test. So this stance will also grant the state board an additional $50 application fee for every candidate that is in this situation. Seems like a conflict of interest to me, board is incentivized to deny your requests at this time.

Also, they seem to stand on the leg that candidates were given plenty of notice regarding the exam changes. This is a completely irrelevant statement and makes me question even wanting to be a CPA for a board with such poor logic. It doesn't matter how much notice was given, you are not receiving 6 testing windows as promised day 1!

Not only does the board have terrible logic, they also missed their SLA in regards to response time, excuse being they have so many request they are backlogged. Hmm, if that's the case, there must be an issue? Further, they have blatantly ignored emails from candidates and will not respond.

I feel really bad that this is happening to you guys. I can't believe that NASBA and the state boards didn't discuss this big change before implementing it. It seems very unfair when compared to everyone else. I hope it works out for you guys!

@Guitarman2016 Thanks! It's safe to say there were no candidates present in the decision making!

my state board was a harsh no, stating I may ONLY request a waiver for the 18 months duration AFTER I passed all 4 parts within 18 months. why would i request if i had already passed? made 0 sense to me. We need to file a petition or something.

Im sorry but this is complete BS. It is now, without a doubt, a money scheme. The state boards should grant a 6 month extension of all credits to accommodate for this. We have to be the guinea pigs for a new exam and at the same time have a whole testing window removed. I sent the AICPA and State Boards an e-mail but we should all get a petition going.

    Here is my e-mail:

My name is XXXXX and I am currently in the process of taking the CPA exams. I have passed BEC and REG and am scheduled to take AUD in early April and FAR in late May. I saw today that any test taken in Q2 will not have the scores released until August 16-18th. The score release date is towards the end of Q3. Could you please explain to me how I will know which exam to prepare for (provided I failed one or two of them) and how I will even register and schedule one of the exams for Q3? My BEC expires June 30th, which is essentially the end of May as June is a non-testing month. With the delayed score release date, the AICPA is essentially removing Q3 as a potential testing quarter for me, which will then put my REG credit in jeopardy and further delay my ability to pass these exams. And I am sure I am not the only one in this predicament. Does the Ohio State Board of Accounting intend on extending the 18 month testing window to accommodate for this?

    BEC - 81

    REG - 80

    AUD - 74, 94

    FAR - 95
