So i’m probably going to fail but I want to atleast make an attempt. I have 13 days before I take the REG exam. I’ve taken 10 days of PTO so I have all those days to completely focus on REG. I have the Wiley 2017 CPAExam study guide. I’ve gone through around 80 pages of the book so far but I feel like reading the book is not the most effective way to go about this. Especially because the Wiley book is sooooo detailed. I think reading 500 pages the next 13 days will leave me no time for MCQ.

What do you think is the best option

    1) Read the whole book – answer as much MCQ and SIMs as possible
    2) Get the NINJA summary and focus primarily on MCQs and SIMs

I personally would go with number 2

    AUD - NINJA in Training
    BEC - 79
    FAR - 77
    REG - NINJA in Training

My scenario is very similar to yours Pilly. I have my reg exam scheduled for my first attempt on May 31st. I personally don't use the book at all. I watch the videos but mainly read the lectures and answer every question offered. Upon any questions that I get wrong, I go back and try to understand the reasoning rather then simply remembering the answer. My goal is to attempt every question in the test bank mainly for the exposure to the material in different formats. I've used this method for BEC and AUD and have passed both exams on my first try so I plan on staying the course. Good Luck and just fully utilize that test bank in CPAexcel

I would say to do a combination of SIMS, Reading, and Progress tests. If you have final review exams then use those as well. When it comes to reading, glaze over what you know and focus on the areas you are not as good in. You can tell the areas you aren't good in by taking progress tests which should break down areas and questions you're bad in. Finally, do SIMS to get used to how they will look and sharpen your technical skills. Refer to the book for any areas that you are unsure of, the book is the key, as long as you have the discipline to read the areas you are weak in. Best of luck to you! I take REG on May 27th and will be following the same advice I have given you!

I sit on May 25th. I'm feeling pretty ok assuming that 1) I am required to have a solid conceptual understanding, but don't necessarily need to memorize exact percentages, thresholds, etc., and 2) that B. Law is not emphasized, and just a basic understanding is needed.

Is anyone able to confirm my assumptions? Can't wait to (hopefully) pass this section and never, ever discuss REG again.

@casie_cook I totally agree with you. Knowledge of the concepts is going to be the biggest thing. However, I have heard that making sure you have enough time for the sims has been a problem for the new exam. Also, business law should not get too detailed on the exam either nor should it be in vast quantities. We will get through this!

I can attest that you need to give yourself extra time for the sims. They are long and have lots of exhibits or supporting docs so it takes a while just to grasp the whole picture. Then you also end up wasting time tabbing back and forth. I would recommend saving at least 2 hours, if not 2.5 hrs for the sims.

    AUD - 85
    BEC - 83
    FAR - 91
    REG - 86

    BEC - 83, 11/28/16

    AUD - 85, 2/22/17

    REG - 86, 5/15/17

    FAR - 91, 12/6/17

Leave at least 2 hours for the sims. They are extensive with multiple tabs.
