Ok everyone so I just got my score report for the dreaded 74 in AUD. Got Comparable in 3 MCQ topics and Stronger in 3. Overall Stronger in MCQ and a Weaker in Sims.

You would think I would’ve passed (maybe)! Ugh so frustrating

Anyone else have anything similar who got a 74 on AUD?

I feel you, but you gotta let it go and move on.

Don't bother challenge it. It's not worth it.

Just a bit more effort, I am sure you will make it. You just missed one question too many.

    Good luck!

Working full-time and taking all 4 parts in one window.

If I can do it, you all can too.

The only 74 I ever got was on REG and I had a similar score report – lots of Comparable and Strong in MCQs but Weaker SIMS. It looked like a passing score report. I wouldn't pay much attention to the score report unless you fail by more than 5-10 points because then you might really get to know where you need to improve.

Issuing a 74 is like the AICPA's way of saying “Oh sorry, you probably actually passed and maybe could've passed this exam in any other given testing window, but we can't let all these smart people pass the CPA exam at once! Great job but were going to have to ask you to try next quarter.” It hurts, I know I have been on the 74 train but if you continue to build on what you already know then you are bound for success next time. Just keep pushing!

have to agree with @jereumie- you have to move on… I got a 71 on BEC and my score report was stronger across the board- seriously…. I was “stronger” in everything. I actually called NASB about the report and got some orwellian double speak about strong being strong against questions and candidates and standard deviations some other non-sense… so essentially I don't trust the reports at all…. bottom line is a fail is a fail I didn't answer enough questions right compared to other candidates no matter how the differential played out… and it sucks especially when your score report tells you that technically you should have passed. Sorry this happened to you. But study like there is no tomorrow and you will pass next time. Good Luck and hang in there….

I'm with you – I got a 73 on REG and was Stronger in 4 categories, Comparable in 1 and Weaker in 1. And then stronger in McQ vs weaker in SIMS. I actually felt the exact opposite walking out of the exam so who knows how this score report is done. I was really discouraged, but am taking AUD today so am focusing on that and then going to try to take REG again ASAP so I don't forget anything. I know the scores won't come out until August but at least I'll be able to relax over the summer!

You also need to remember the performance on the specific content areas is only related to MC performance. So being stronger in 3 areas and comparable in the rest still only accounts for 60% of your exam.

Grab your score report, crumple it up and toss into the garbage.
    They are worthless.

I too got a 74 on AUD and reading my score report made it sound like I had passed..

It is a meaningless piece of paper.

@CPA2BEE Totally agree! I wonder what would've happened if I had tested earlier in the window.

But that is life. Guess I will just have to give it another shot.

@mckan514w Haha your comments really resonate with me as I just got through 1984 last week. The scoring is a bit mysterious but at the end of the day, a 74 won't happen if I study to do my best and not to just pass. I know the goal is to pass, but I've never been one to study like that in the past and I think that attitude really messed with my head on AUD.

Gotta hit it extra hard next time!

Thanks and can't wait till you pass FAR! One more of us being done is a victory for all imo.

    Score report is definitely bullsh!t

I scored a 74 twice in a row on AUD and one score report was much better than the other. That makes me think the difference was somewhere in the SIMs.

They're good at giving you just enough information to seem like it is useful but not enough information to actually be useful.

Score report are useless, I wouldn't even pay attention to that. I bsed everything on IT and received strong and knew everything on Econ and received weak. scored 73 with weak on MC and weak on WC (I knew the topic very well)
