I have reg exam on less than 2 weeks and i am in wandering should i allocate time for Sims practice? Last time i took audit(new format), i practiced sims but none or even close to the ones i practiced in exam appeared on exam. I still have to be comfortable with MCQs and have yet to do any Ninja MCQs. Any advice?

    BEC - 75
    FAR - 76
    REG - 77

The signs are pointing towards no. I am in the same position as you and have been told to just understand the material as best as possible. I'm currently working through the sims to experience the format and learn more in depth the content. Did you feel that studying for the FAR was more or less difficult than REG? Just curious because I've heard people say REG is the hardest. Also, how are you feeling going into REG?

I think studying for FAR is less painful if you understand the concept, it is almost like maths that if you understand, no matter how they trick, you will figure out the question but for REG is it less straight forward. But i have to say FAR has more materials than REG. So some pros and cons on both.

As per REG, i am also going to do MCQs and understanding them and if time remains, tackle some Sims. GOOD LUCK TO YOU.

I vote yes because the sims have info that the MCQs skip over…

    CPA (2017)

    REG:  75

    BEC:  76

    FAR:  77

    AUD: 78

    CMA (2019)

    P1: 380

    P2: 360

    AUD - 1st - 60 (12/12), 61 (2/13), 61 (8/13), 78! (11/15)
    REG - 55 (2/16) 69 (5/16) Retake(8/16)
    BEC - 71(5/16) Retake (9/16)
    FAR - (8/16)

Yes, run through a few SIMs to get used to the format and nature of the questions. SIMs are great for testing your understanding of the material in a more practical way rather than just multiple choice, so I would recommend getting in some practice before exam day. Go through at least 5 SIMs and a DRS.

This portion of the exam is heavily weighted so don't under estimate it.

@tvpaul, are sims that bad? I think i have similar experience with Audit Sims last time when i took; just guessed most of them with 50-50 chance.

@madhav in my opinion, yes. I took Audit before the change and thought those SIMs were fair but the SIMs on this new exam are challenging. I went through the Becker SIMs before my exam and just felt like it didn't prepare me for the actual SIMs at all. Maybe I just got unlucky and got tough SIMs idk. But its mainly the DRSs that are tough.

If you practice SIMs to solidify your knowledge, yes, that can help if thats they way you learn. If you're practicing SIMs thinking it'll prepare you for the SIMs on the actual exam, I don't think it'll help.

Does anybody here use Becker? I feel like the SIMS go way more in depth on information than MCQ have been and even stuff that's covered in the book. When you say the SIMS aren't the same; because we know they won't be the same questions. So if you could elaborate I would appreciate it.

@alloutofkuai I can only attest to FAR because that's the only one I've taken (5/7/17). I did all of the simulations, and I had a couple where I thought to myself, “Okay I saw something similar on Becker's simulations.” But I got 5 DRS simulations on the actual exam. 5. Nothing could prepare me for that. The sheer amount of material I had to sort through/skim/use in testlet 5 alone…*shudders* It was time consuming, you had to know the topic and understand what the question is asking in and out 100% to know what information to use when, etc.

You should definitely practice the Sims. Don't listen to anyone else who says otherwise. That's like asking “should I practice the Memos for BEC?” The answer is YES! The Sims help wrap up what you have learned and you may get lucky and get an early identical Sim on your exam.

The night before I took AUD, I went back and re-did all the Ninja SIMS that I scored low on-I must have done about 30….It felt like crap, because by the end of the night I felt like I was surely failing this exam, but on exam day, it actually helped calm me down-a lot of what I saw on the SIMS was similar/familiar to practice SIMS. I did every single one of Ninja and all of Becker SIMS in my prep. If you have the time, it can only be beneficial to practice them.

    HI there,
I'm taking REG on May 25th and I'm using Becker. I went through the BECKER SIMS and they were very in depth. I took one practice exam last week and i'll take the next one on Sat. My challenge is i panic but the SIMS on the Becker final seemed fair and doable. I also have the NINJA notes and the audio which I like to keep concepts fresh.

The NINJA MCQ are more specific than the Becker MCQ (and harder).

I guess I would go through the SIMS in your review course just to see they way concepts may be presented on the exam.

    We can do this!

    AUD - 75
    BEC - 84
    FAR - 76
    REG - 78
    Have a great day
    Rachel
