some FAR TBS advice

    I am re-posting the post below from a prior topic I had on which I provided this, so I may share some of my experience and give my two cents on how FAR sims may be tackled, after finding out I passed last night. Hopefully this will assist some of you struggling with FAR sims. This information is based on my personal experience and reflections taken after the test.

    To start off, let me mention those super long simulations with a very large # of entries with 4-6 resources to look through. For those particular Sims, you should start by reading the directions, and look at what they want… then skim the resources.

    You can pretty much eliminate the task of going back to that resource, and move on to the next one. A big mistake I made was trying to go down the line of entries, to get each answer one by one. DO NOT DO THIS! It is a major waste of time, and because I tried doing it for one of the Sims, I essentially left an entire simulation unanswerable. Once you’ve gone through all resources and answered for all the information provided, proceed to enter zeros or leave the cells blank, whichever you are instructed to do.

    Advice for document review:
    In my opinion, document reviews are not that bad, they’re just new. They test your FAR knowledge in a manner similar to mcq, but with a more real world sense by providing resources to go through.

    Like the super long Sims, Read the introduction to get an idea of the situation (case study), then skim through all the resources. For these though, take each sentence response one by one. As in, answer one, then move on to the next without skipping. Like multiple choice, use process of elimination to get the correct response, but remember, these document reviews require a legitimate understanding of the material as a whole.

    For numerical response sims, when you truly do not know the answer and cannot get one.. and you are on a clock, enter a zero or leave it blank. Whichever you are instructed to do. I do not recommend spending vast amounts of time on the authoritative literature. I did that for a couple Sims in audit, spending a solid 20-25 minutes on 1-2 of them, and failed with a 73.

    @Parthamis: Thanks for the detailed tips for FAR sims. I understand that after going through all the resources, find the answer for one entry & then move on to find the answer for the 2nd entry. I am not sure what it is you are trying to say in the 3rd paragraph. What should you avoid doing in order to save time? Can you please elaborate? TIA

    There are a couple FAR sims where there are like 25-30 entries all independent to each other. As it turns out, most of them are blank/zero. So do not try to go at them 1 by 1. Instead, go to the resources and see which entries actually have an answer.

    Thanks for the info!

    Sometimes, I feel like sims are more like reading comprehension of the SATs.

    @Parthamis “So do not try to go at them 1 by 1. A big thank you for this post.

    @wannafree I discovered it during the FAR exam. I had about 2.5 hours after the MCQs and had 2 of those long sims. I discovered it after I spent ample amount of time on one and realized I hadn't made a dent, but while going through the resources, I realized most of these accounts/people do not have an adjustment.

    @C.P.A The Third
    I used Ninja MCQ for FAR. and Stuck to Becker Final Review for Sims.
    Ninja MCQ for FAR was good for content learning, but not for prepping for the beast sims in the actual exam. Same with Becker.
