I am interested to start studying for the CPA exam, but unsure what material to use. I don’t have much accounting work experience and have been out of college for 6 years. Any suggestions on what material would be best for someone who hasn’t been working in accounting?

I don't think it matter about working or not working in accounting. I think if you can evaluate how you learn would help. I started with materials that included lecture videos, I was absolutely miserable trying to watch the video and listen to someone read the book to me ( I felt I could read the book faster), I switched to another course with so many small pieces I became annoyed and impatient (again)….but I found the ninja products, and wow I can study without study stress. Each part of ninja came out at different times but it gives me the I have studied feel. Work experience can work against you because you are tempted to take those experiences and try to apply them to the exam instead of studying the material. Don't get me wrong, work experience helps but the exam is a different horse to ride. Take the time to research the courses, and of course go with what you can afford. Good luck, you'll do fine.

I used Becker and passed them all in 8 months while working full time, and even took a couple vacations in the process. Becker is pricey but it still has the highest pass rate. I have tons of accounting experience but surprisingly little of that experience actually applied to the exam. Except for the people taking the exam right out of school, we basically all started studying with a blank slate and learned from the bottom for most aspects of this test.
