I took REG this morning – and felt like it brutalized me. I studied with Becker since Sept 1, and knew that txtbook inside and out. Got to the exam and felt 10% of the material was tested on and was completely spanked on the sims. Someone please tell me they had the same experience!!

I took it on 11-21 and I feel the same way. Studied with becker for 8 weeks and supplemented with wiley's online test bank. Scored 76 and 86 on beaker's practice exams which gave me some confidence going in, only to have that confidence completely smashed leaving the exam. I don't feel like I passed.

    Bec 89 (2-27-15)

@Ericashalik my sims were tough as well. Three of them I was fairly confident on, though I don't think I got them completely correct. Two were over my head – one I had looked over in becker but not to enough of an extent and the other sim I hadn't even covered in becker or wiley. I lucked out on my research sim and got an easy topic. I'm sure you did better than you think. And at least you didn't leave any sims blank.

What was worse for me was the MCQs. I felt like they were nothing like what becker and wiley covered.

These type of threads always scare me since I am using Becker only. Are you saying that the material they tested weren't even in the Becker textbook? I can understand if the MCQs were different, but at least the textbook should prepare you enough to give you a chance when the questions vary.

    REG - 87 1/22/15

I used Becker for REG. There were no surprises on the MCQ. SIMS, on the other hand, will be something you've probably never seen. However, that is the point of the SIMS… to test how you are going to deal with something you've probably never seen. Have a solid background knowledge of most tax concepts/regulations and you will be OK for the SIMS.

    FAR - 08/08/14 - 93
    BEC - 08/28/14 - 95
    REG - 10/11/14 - 96
    AUD - 11/30/14 - 99

    @MrCPA:

Agreed. Its quite sickening to think that after all the hours of work it might not mean anything.

I heard Becker doesn't prepare well for REG. I started with Wiley and Ninja notes/audio and recently added ninja mcq and I actually like them a lot more than Wiley now. I have also heard very good reviews about ninja MCQ being very representative of what u'll get on the exam. My exam is on wednesday so I”ll let u know how it goes!

Hopefully u passed…don't think about it now. It'll only drive u crazy!

    AUD: 84
    FAR: 75
    BEC: 78
    REG: 75

    DONE-ZO!!!!!!!!

REG: Used Becker 2014 book, NINJA MCQ, Ninja notes, ninja audio

Just came back from my REG exam, not sure if I really want to study Becker again. I have a tax background but the questions really knocked me out. Not sure, what will happen!

    BEC – 80

    REG – ?

    AUD – Feb 2015

    FAR – July 2015

I really hope there is a curve on this exam!

    Hi all,

I am new here, and I'm so happy to have this outlet. I took REG a week ago. I used Becker as well and had several questions that I did not feel prepared for. I studied harder for that exam than anything I've ever studied for in the past. I know I gave it my best. I made a lot of really stupid mistakes as this was my first exam, so I was a nervous wreck! I had heard so much about making sure that there was enough time for the sims, that I went too fast on the MCQ's and had 1hr 45 min for the sims. I should have used that time on the multiple choice, because I was not very confident in my answers for them. I actually felt good about 4 sims. I know I bombed 2. I just pray that my performance on the MCQ wasn't too weak. I enjoy tax and was hoping for a tax heavy exam, but that wasn't the case. Also I had so many MCQ questions that were things that I felt were not asking the big picture, but the teeny tiny things that one would consider insubstantial. The score wait is torturous. I don't know whether to start preparing for the next exam or plan a retake! Thanks for letting me vent! I am hoping the best for you all!

@Kbrattin I would definitely start studying for the next section. You can't really afford to take 3-4 weeks off, and especially if you pass that is wasted time. If you do happen to fail don't take it too hard – many people fail the first time. And after you take your next section you can go back and re-study Reg. It will still be fresh enough in your memory that it won't be too hard to pick it back up.

I took REG this morning 11/23. Used Gleim, NINJA MCQ + Audio/notes. Felt well studied…did not feel good especially on the Sims. I have my Enrolled Agent so my tax foundation (at least from an education standpoint) is decent, but there is some obscure stuff on this test.

Similar to one of the comments I wish I hadn't rushed the MCQ. I am kicking myself on that. I was so worried about leaving extra time for the Sims…and I did use it, but probably more than I needed and I know my dumb mistakes tend to come from reading too fast.

    Time will tell.

PS. This was my first CPA exam as well. I do think there is a bit of an extra curve in that…

I walked out and I cried in my car!! lol I felt like I had got hit by a train. The sims were off the wall and the MCQS I felt weren't too bad but thats not to say they were easy. Keep your head up I ended up passing with a 77!
