Hi all. I’ll preface this by saying the experience requirements for tn are fairly loose. I have contacted the state board a number of times for clarification and I’m confident that the cpa that signs my experience waiver just has to have personal knowledge of my experience in the accounting industry (aka I don’t have to work directly under a cpa to have them sign my form). I have been working as an independent bookkeeper for 3 years now and I have met the hours requirements for licensure. Most of my clients file with places like H&R block or have an accountant approve and then send the information to a cpa. I have one client who uses a local cpa firm and I asked their cpa to sign my waiver. She told me they have a policy with her firm that she can’t sign it for me.
What do I do now? I have a friend that’s a cpa with knowledge of my work experience but I hate to ask her because I really wanted to be able to do all of this “myself”. Anyone else been in this situation? Tips/advice??
