Transfer CPA scores from NY to TX

    Hi everyone,
I completed 134 credits in NY and passed 3 CPA sections (NY requires 120 credits to sit for the CPA exam and 150 credits for licensure). Is it ok that I pass all 4 parts and transfer the scores to TX then complete the last 16 credits later ? I wonder if TX accept my passed sections while I took the exam with less than 150 credits.
    Thanks

The NY license is transferable to any state, not sure about scores.

You would need to get licensed in NY and then apply for reciprocity with Texas. You would not be able to transfer your test scores and be licensed as Texas unless you meet the TX requirements which is 150 hours plus a college ethics course.

I live in Texas but did my CPA as New Mexico because I couldn't test in Texas due to the fact I never took the college ethics class. I am going the reciprocity route, just haven't filed the paperwork yet.

I called the TX state board this week to ask about transferring CA credits. They told me they will only count CPA exam scores from another jurisdiction if you had met the TX requirements for education prior to passing the exams. They also informed me once I start the process, any current NTS I had received would be void, so I am waiting until I take my next exam before transferring. I included the link the person I talked to directed me to in order to start the process. Like @trele6 mentioned, TX requires 150 credit hours so on that alone, you'll want to wait.

TX board told me they only accept scores transfer if you've met TX education requirements before sitting the first exam.. otherwise the only option is to pass all 4 parts of exams, get licensed in the state where you sit your exam and then apply reciprocity. TX required 150 credits, and also research credits requirement, plus 3 credits of ethics class and another 3 credits of business communication class which should be taken in the TX board approved school! It looks so diffcult to meet the requirment if you did not prepare to sit exam in TX previously…. How can we know we have to take the classes in the TX board approved school!?

When applying for reciprocity, do you need to submit documents like transcripts?

@zchen42, no I am not aware of that being needed. You have to do a finger print background check, take the Texas CPA ethics class, pay the App fee and provide a letter of good standing from the state you are a CPA in with proof of your last three years of CPE.
