I’m taking FAR this weekend and I feel like there a -5% change I’m going to pass it. I took the first Becker mock exam a couple of times and the last time I took it I got an 88% on it but I literally feel like I know nothing. I looked at the second exam and I hardly knew any of it, I got I think a 30% or less on the second mock exam. I don’t understand how I can knock one out of the park and bomb the other one. It doesn’t help that I looked at the AICPA outline and noticed that Governmental and NFP stuff looked like it would only be about 10-20% of the exam and then I get to the last two chapters which I started 2 days ago and Tim Gearty starts out with some nonsense about Governmental being “heavily tested”. Which btw I think is total bullshit since most CPA’s don’t work in those sectors.

Is it normal to feel this way before FAR? I literally feel like I have accomplished nothing and I’ve been studying for probably close to 4 months and putting in about 4-8 hours a day 5 days a week for 4 months and I feel like I am totally unprepared. After that second mock exam I feel totally unprepared.

Yes, completely normal to feel that way. I took FAR last week and going in, I felt the same way. There's just so much material that you never feel like you know anything. I'd say know the basics and principles at the minimum. Governmental did seem heavily tested in the MCQ portion, but nothing was complex.

I could barely get through Wiley's practice test, but felt much more confident after taking the actual test. I think most people would agree with me in that the practice review tests are actually harder than the real thing. Remember all you need is a 75, good luck!

I really hope so. I just looked at my second mock exam and I got a 22%. How I went from an 88% on the first to a 20% on the second is beyond my comprehension but I did it. In the first practice exam I got all the governmental correct, it was only maybe 6 MCQs though. In my second mock exam I looked through all 66 MCQ's and I knew like maybe 10 of them and that's giving myself more credit than I deserve. I had no idea how to do the Governmental TBS on that one either. I can't wait to get this out of the way.

You should reconsider where CPAs work. State, local, federal, and NGOs employ a large number of CPAs.

I also got destroyed on the second becker practice. I did ok ish overall but got like a 30-40% on the govt/nfp MCQ questions. The gov/nfp questions on the actual exam are not as hard/tricky. Don't let it get to ya!

I've been studying on and off for FAR since… March? I've been pushing back the exam date because I wanted to make sure I got through everything. After through much procrastination and preparation, I finally took my exam today. I would say the exam covered just about every chapter in Becker. I got a 71 and 59 on my practice exams. Compared to the actual exam, I thought the MCQs were equal to Becker and the SIMs were just insane. I don't know how I could've studied differently to prepare for it, but I'm just hoping I pass. I definitely felt like every time I reviewed and got to the end of the book, I would forget everything in the first 9 chapters. I went through all the MCQs 2-3 times and made sure I understood why I got them wrong. I honestly skipped the SIMs and I'm glad I did because the SIMs were nothing like they were in Becker's two finals. Definitely more challenging on another level. But hey! We're all going through this long process. If you fail, you can always try again because many people do!
