I shelled out $$$ for a tutor in order to pass REG on my 5th attempt. I was up against losing BEC credit and was super desperate. Lmk if you want his link. It was hands down worth the price and got me out of the REG rut. I also come from 0 tax background and just could not manage it alone.

I'll tell you the only way I could pass REG was by getting a private tutor. After failing REG the 4th time, I was at a loss and panicked at losing BEC. Let me know if it interests you and I will share his link. The idea of a tutor was sorta weird to me. This guy is remote in FL and he's pricey AF, but he's worth it. I worked on taxation on entities with him because it was the one category I could never get out of the “weaker” section. I scored “stronger” when I got my passing score last week. REG is legit the devil in test form.

I know a lot of people thought they weren't going to finish, but I legit did not think I would pull this off. This last score release was brutal, waiting 4 months for, what could have been, my last score with BEC on the line – I just never thought I would be a CPA. I still don't believe it. 11 total exams, and 5 times to pass REG (the devil in test form). The first two years of my marriage being shackled to books. Getting two puppies just to leave the work (and fun!) to my husband. 40+ hour work weeks, family members passing. This exam is not for the faint of heart, but I am posting in this thread – boo to the freakin' yeah.

Jeff, this forum is the best. It's a priceless piece of our journey and I could have never made it through without. I will check back in from time to time to give back for sure. Thank to you all of the awesome members that chimed in with advice and support, especially with the fails. And I had a lot of them. I will fall out of my seat if I ever happen to meet one of you face to face and address you by your A71 name.

    Cheers, friends!

Yeah – I will be honest folks. This tutor is not cheap, but for me, I was in desperation mode. I could NOT lose BEC. I HAD to be done with this.

So here is the link to the tutor I used (his LinkedIn). He's a virtual tutor, you don't do video face to face, but do video Skype where you just chat like a phone convo with a screen share. Sounds sorta weird, I'll be honest. Before I gave the guy my money I messaged a few people on LinkedIn that had left reviews to make sure he was legit (though they could have been fake I guess but w/e). He's pricey, but like I said, I needed something to get me over the hump. I could NOT afford to lose BEC (literally and figuratively) so the investment in Darius was worth it. He's in Florida, but I'm in CA, doesn't matter. He has a huge window of times during the day of availability.

I did 5 sessions with him, and told him on the first session I needed to master Taxation on Entities. He wants to make the best of your time. You need to be honest with him during session where you are good and where you aren't so you can maximize the time and drill into your week areas.

I could go on and on, but here's the link. Shoot me more questions if you have them.

I just wrote in the Passed REG thread my experience. I'll jot it down here. It took me 5 attempts to pass REG. 3 attempts to pass FAR. AUD is the only one I passed on the first try. I went into my REG exams feeling semi-prepared and ready to pass (I never walked in feeling like I would nail any of these exams, but semi-prepared was good for me). A 72 on my 4th (and what was supposed to be my last) attempt was gut wrenching. With BEC pending expiration I went for a tutor. Lmk if you want details on him, but I will tell you that's what got me over the hump. I could not get my Taxation on Entities out of the Weaker zone. I got it to Stronger with him and it gave me my 76 I needed to be done and not lose BEC.

This crap sucks real bad. I have been there 4 times. It can be done.

Well, it took me 5 tries on REG, but I finally did it. 11 total exam sittings and I. AM. DONE.

REG was terrible. I will tell anyone who is up against the wire with an expiring exam pending to use a tutor. I was leery about going that route but dropped some $ on an amazing guy in FLA (screenshare/phone sessions) and he is honestly what made the difference for me. I could not for the life of me ever get my score on Taxation on Entities to get out of the Weaker zone. With my 4th fail being a 72 and another Weaker on Entities, that's all I focused on with the tutor. He got me to a Stronger on my score from today – 76. That 76 might as well be a 99 at this point.

    Because I. AM. DONE.

Congrats to others who slayed this beast.

I'm going to go ahead and throw this out there – this makes me uneasy about the accuracy of matching scores to correct accounts. If they have an encryption and data issue, how do I know my score matched to me from NASBA is really mine…?

This happened last summer. CBA had a meltdown and said people were on vacation and hadn't processed all the scores or something ridiculous like that. Scores ended up not being posted until about 2pm that day.

Update – yes UCLA is expensive, but easy to get in obviously. UC San Diego extension has a similar set up. $695 and no books needed (they use free AICPA-provided materials). If you can get your employer to spring for it then all the better.

I took REG 4/14 and ignorance is bliss for now. It was my 5th attempt at REG and BEC expired 4/26. Aug 17 is highly anticipated but not at the same time. It has been amazing to go hiking with my husband and dogs, spend time with friends, wine taste, live guilt free haha. I'm plugging away at online classes for the extra units I need but life is pretty good. 8 more weeks….

Thanks for the heads up on the UCLA extension. I am surprised no one has mentioned on here how extremely difficult it is to get into the Foothill class. 4 sections and all seats on wait lists taken in 6 minutes. This is my 2nd quarter trying to get in. FML.

Someone up there asked about the REG SIMs. This was my testlet format:

    T1 MCQ (36-38 don't recall, blueprint says)
    T2 MCQ (36-38 don't recall, blueprint says)
    T3 – 2 SIMS
    T4 – 3 SIMS
    T5 – 3 SIMS

Try to go into SIMs with at least 2hr left.
