Corporate Governance and other Boring CPA Exam Topics

Week 23:

My first official week of studying for BEC has begun. I have logged 13.5 hours of study time thus far and plan to do another 2.5 hours tonight. I definitely took it a bit easy this week. I spent the day with my family on Saturday; we started my older daughter in swimming lessons, then went to a birthday party for one of her classmates. I transferred some home made movies to my iMAC and we had a blast Saturday night watching the videos, as we were transferring them. Time flies, my older daughter is going to be 4 this summer and I don’t know where the time has gone.

I’ve gained 20 lbs since starting to study for the CPA exam. I used to go to the gym 4 or 5 days a week before the CPA Exam started and was probably in the best shape I’ve been in since high school (when I played football). My goal is going to be getting to the gym or on my treadmill at home 2-3 times per week, to get myself feeling a bit healthier. It will only be 30-60 minutes of workout time, as I can’t afford to let this impact my study schedule, but my health is important, so need to wedge it in somewhere.

I’m giving myself 11 weeks, this past one included, to prepare for BEC. This week, I made it through Corporate Governance, Control Environment and half way through Operations Management (I haven’t finished all the MCQs on Operations Management yet). Man, the Corporate Governance section was brutally boring and I didn’t do too well on the MCQs. However, I will continue reading the mnemonics and doing MCQs until I get it straightened out. I’m not too concerned about it at this point, I got an A in Cost Accounting for my MBA, so it’s just a matter of getting it all down again.

Corporate Governance is not that bad once you learn it -- good luck

Jay, Best of luck with your BEC studying! I have yet to study for that section and REG. I am awaiting my scores from Jan/Feb 2011 window in which I took AUD for the 1st time, and FAR for the 3rd! Thanks for giving us the estimate of March 17th as the date of score releases. I hope to have something to celebrate/drink about on Saint Patty's day and not be sulking in misery, LOL. Also, boy do can I relate to you in terms of weight gain! I too was a regular gym goer and my exercise and sanity has suffered since preparing for AUD and FAR. I would manage to go once/twice a week on the weekends, and many a times bring my flashcards and simply walk on the treadmill. Exercise and health were big parts of my life but I am hoping that the sacrifices I make now will all be worth it in the near future--correction, I KNOW they will be worth it, it's just hard waiting it out! Good Luck to ya :)

I've gained weight also. I am determined to fit the treadmill in at least 20 minutes a day, 3-4 days a week. I think that if I replace time I'm sleeping with running, it shouldn't take away from studying. Good luck on studying for BEC. It sounds like you're giving yourself a good amount of time.

Corp. Governance is a joke 12 years ago

the corp governance section has to be the most useless and inane series of words ever put to print. Whomever thought the question "Is this an example of control environment or control activities?" was useful in any way to anything should be embarrassed.
