Nadia is a new weekly Club 75 Blogger as she documents her journey through the CPA Exam. She has been a member of Another71.com's Club 75 since December 2010.
My name is Nadia and, believe it or not, I wanted to be a CPA since I was in 8th grade. It all started at a career day in my middle school where a women CPA explained how being her career had changed her whole life. After listening to her experiences, I knew that this was the career worth pursuing. I decided that I was ready to do anything I could to make it happen. So at moment I planned to do great in high school so I can get into an excellent college and I also had to get by Master Degree in order to sit for the exam.
I was very successful during my college career and was able to do my Bachelor and Master Degree in a period of 5 years. I have been trying to pass the CPA exam since 2005. What can I say, when you have been so close to passing the exam, so close that you can taste it, you dont give up! I graduated from Graduate school and I thought what better way to start my post college experience than to try to pass the CPA exam in my first try. I had a free ride for the first exam because of having a job offer from one of the big four public firms and I didnt intend to waste it!
The firm only paid for the Becker CPA review so I was determined to give it my all. I took the classes, worked hard and when my score came back I found out I failed all four parts by a few points. I was very disappointed and hurt. It tried the next year, 2006, and studied as much as I could, however with busy season, getting adjusted to a public accounting work load and traveling, it was very hard to give it my all. Despite the lack of time, I almost passed but again I wasnt successful.
This didnt allow me to give up though! It did take me 3 years to bounce back from failing my second time and reapplied for the test again in 2010. I ran the Boston Marathon in April of 2010 and that gave me a new boost to make my dreams of being a CPA become a reality. I also got a scholarship for a Becker CPA course so I thought that it was time to make it happen. I reapplied in August of 2010 and start to study for FAR which I took in the next testing window in early October.
My plan was to finish all four exams by November 2010. I worked really hard and even purchased their final review course and did many extra questions. I took all my tests during the weekends so I wouldnt disrupt my work schedule. However, once again I was not successful. You know really close but no cigar.
Despite of all the setbacks, I am not ready to give up. I think four times a charm. My next test is AUD and I am scheduled for July 2 and I purchased the Yaeger CPA Review. I also signed up for Club 75 since December 2010 and I have to say that I am ready to make this the last time I sit for the CPA exam. I am ready to follow Jeffs advice and finally pass the test in order to begin my journey as a Certified Public Accountant. I am ready for this! BRING IT!
Nadia, It is very obvious that you are a "go getter." Have you thought about perhaps taking 1 exam per testing window?
