looks like jeff deleted the other thread….

@justess – dude thats incredible that you got a 71 the first time only studying for two weeks. im sure this time will be a breeze.

    @summer
    – im just using the same format for all WC with a slight modification if the WC is like a memo to an engagement staff. i wouldnt worry about typing loudly in the testing center. if its bothering anyone enough they can just put on the noise cancelling headphones they have at their station.

@kenckang Are you using the format that I linked in the old thread or something different? If it's a different format, do you mind sharing it with us? I guess I probably shouldn't worry about typing too loud, it just seems that silly little things are what I overthink when I begin to get nervous lol. What day are you sitting for BEC?

im using the one you showed me
if the WC prompt is like an internal memo to an engagement team youre managing, i'll leave out the kiss ass language and just get to the point.
    so instead of saying:

    dear ___,
thank you for allowing me to assist you with your inquiry regarding____. When analyzing ____, we must consider____…

    instead ill just start with:

When analyzing____, we must consider ____

Ohh, okay. So essentially, if it's an internal message, get straight to the point. If the recipient is a client/external member, embellish and glam up the message? If it's internal, should we still explain everything in layman terms as if the reader doesn't have the same knowledge as we do on the topic?

We're taking it the same day! We can both come back after the test and bitch and complain about it to one another haha.

all the comments ive seen on the accounting subreddit relating to the BEC WC all say that the main thing is to hit as many keywords you can think of, spell correctly, and have proper grammar & punctuation. i dont think embellishing and glamming up the message will contribute much (if at all) to our score. that said, i dont think it would hurt to explain everything in layman's terms AS WELL as using the technical keywords. You might hit some relevant keywords while explaining it in layman's terms as well. who knows. the more you write the better i suppose.

how do you plan to allocate your time on the actual exam? Im thinking:
    MCQ: 45 min X 2
    TBS: 20 min x 5
WC: 50 mins divided among 3

lol yeah, im pretty sure im gonna be pissed about the IT questions

My time allocation will probably be something similar. I usually permit about 1.5 minutes per MCQ but I never actually take that long. I'm usually averaging about 1 minute per question, probably because of adrenaline and my concentration is really strong during that time. We only have 4 TBS for BEC, correct, not 5?

    What about the IT questions?

AICPA says 4 TBS. Hopefully that is correct! https://www.aicpa.org/BecomeACPA/CPAExam/DownloadableDocuments/next-cpa-exam-structure-white-paper.pdf

Hmm well that should be interesting. I was never good at IT classes in college, but I feel like I'm doing pretty well with these exams. I tend to understand it pretty easily. I think having already taken AUD helps, as well, as the information technology topics overlap. Hopefully, there won't be too many surprises!

    Hello,

I will take the test on Thursday. I just want to confirm with you guys that there will NOT be formulas for MC but there will be formulas provided for the 4 TBS questions right?

By the way, do you happen to know if they will have “tissue” available if we have allergies? Lol, silly question to ask but I've been using a lot of tissues taking the practice test.

im pretty sure formulas will not be provided for MCQ.
formulas MAY be provided on the TBS. ive heard some people get TBS that have formulas included and others do not. i wouldn't count on it if i were you.

    Thanks Kenckang.

Are you ready? I am so nervous and not ready. There so so many formulas to memorized. I got them mixed up. I am trying to be positive. Need to get plenty of rest and being healthy for test day.

i dont think i ever truly truly feel ready. i just get to a point where i just want to get it over with and i am at that point now.
for the formulas, the way that i memorized the formulas was just by doing the MCQ over and over again and writing the formula and answer out on paper while i do the problem.
yup! try to stay positive. for FAR and AUD i kept telling myself that even if i fail the first time, it's OK because i'll find out where i went wrong and focus on those areas next time. I failed AUD my first try.

i think it is recommended to take it easy the day before the test. maybe just some light review with flashcards

A manufacturing company employs a process cost system. The company's product passes through both Department 1 and Department 2 in order to be completed. Conversion costs are incurred uniformly throughout the process in Department 2. The direct material is added in Department 2 when conversion is 80% complete. This direct material is a preservative that does not change the volume. Spoiled units are discovered at the final inspection and are recognized then for costing purposes. The physical flow of units for the current month is presented below.

    Beginning work-in-process 14,000
    in Department 2 (90% complete
    with respect to conversion costs)

Transferred in from Department 1 76,000

    Completed and transferred to 80,000
    finished goods

Spoiled units – all normal 1,500

    Ending work-in-process in 8,500
    Department 2 (60% complete
    with respect to conversion costs)
If the manufacturing company uses the weighted-average method, the equivalent units for direct materials in Department 2 for the current month would be:

    A.
    67,500.

    B.
    80,000.

    C.
    81,500.

    D.
    90,000.

Why is the normal spoilage included in the equivalent units here? Is it because of the sentence “Spoiled units are discovered at the final inspection and are recognized then for costing purposes” in the question? What does that sentence even mean?

the weighted avg EU is basically:

    completed and transferred
    + normal spoilage
    + ending wip
    —————-
    weighted avg eu

normal spoilage is included in inventory. however abnormal spoilage is always a period expense.

Ending WIP will usually say it is X% complete with respect to DM, DL, or OH.

In this problem, which asks for EU of direct material says that DM is added into the WIP when conversion costs (DL, OH) are 80% complete. However, Ending WIP is only 60% complete with respect to conversion costs (dl, oh). Therefore we do not include those units into our EU calculation.

    This leaves us with:

    Completed and Transferred: 80,000
    + normal spoilage: 1,500
    ————————–
    EU: 81,500
