New Mexico CPA Exam Education Requirements

Education Requirement for Licensure: 150 hours (including B.A.)
Participates in International Examination Program: Yes
Hours in accounting: 30 semester hours or equivalent quarter hours in accounting, auditing and auditing related courses.
Exam sitting requirements: B.A. (120 hours)
Experience requirements: 1 year experience in government, industry, academia or public practice.
Ethics exam:       Must pass AICPA Professional Ethics Exam for initial licensure

Requirements for Certified Public Accountant Licensure as an Examination Candidate in New Mexico:

-A completed application form
-Application fee as set forth by Subsection D of 16.60.1.10 NMAC (payable by personal check, cashier’s check, or money order)
-Passport photograph
-Successful complettion of Background check
-Fingerprint Certificate Form completed by the individual taking the fingerprints
-Authorization for Release of Information Form (notarized)
-Passing scores for all four sections of the Uniform CPA Examination sent directly to the Board office from CPA Examination Services
-Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended documenting 150 semester hours of credit to include a bachelor’s degree and 30 hours in accounting
-Work Experience Verification Form documenting at least one year of experience under the supervision of a CPA licensed in some state
-Certificate of Completion for the AICPA Ethics Examination sent directly to the Board office from the AICPA

All applications deemed complete by the Board’s administrator shall be referred to the Board for final consideration. If an applicant does not meet the minimum requirements as set forth above, the application shall be deemed incomplete and shall not be referred to the Board for consideration.

New Mexico CPA Exam Fees

All first-time applicants are required to pay both an application fee and an examination fee upon submission of the first-time application. All re-examination candidates are required to pay both a registration fee and an examination fee at the time of registration.

You are able to apply for one or more sections of the examination at a time; however, you are advised to only apply for a section of the examination if you are ready to take it within the next six months.
