Audio, Flashcards, and MCQs: Final Preparations for FAR Exam

Brent is a NINJA CPA Blogger.

This is it, only a few days between me and a date with FAR. I have been using every available moment to prepare for this exam and am starting to feel more confident. The amount of information covered on this exam still feels overwhelming but I am doing my best to keep it all organized in my head.

During this past week I completed all of the sections in my review material which included governmental accounting, non-for-profits, partnerships, derivatives and hedging. As was the case with the earlier sections, I had to move quickly through each topic to ensure that I covered all of the material before exam day.

Therefore, I was not able to answer all of the multiple choice questions pertaining to each individual topic. I know this is going to be my downfall but the time constraints simply do not allow me to spend the optimal amount of time required to fully understand the information.

I am still kicking myself for not getting started sooner. When I was preparing for AUD I answered every single multiple choice question, maybe even twice, and I also purchased the Wiley Test Bank and went through all of its questions.

Regardless of the fact that I have not been able to put the amount of time in before the exam that I would like, I am staying motivated and proud of myself for all that I have learned up to this point. This exam is going to be tough but I know it can be beaten.

Over the last couple of days I have begun my final review of all the information. I have been listening to the NINJA Audio while at work, in the car, and at the gym. Since I have completed all the sections in my primary review material, the NINJA Audio really helps to reinforce what I have learned and commit it to memory.

Sometimes while listening I pause and rewind to really make it stick. I also hit hard on Bonds and Leases because these were topics I struggled with when I initially learned them. In addition to the NINJA Flashcards, I have created my own set of cards that I have been reviewing before bed.

I really like having the NINJA Flashcards on my phone because I can go over in the dark. I slowly lower the brightness on my phone as I get tired and then when I hit the lowest setting I know it’s time to count the sheep.

I take the test Thursday morning at 8am and plan on continuing my final review until the moment I walk into Prometric and they force me to lock my review materials away.

I encourage everyone out there studying to keep at it and not get discouraged. To those taking the exam during the last days of this testing window, good luck! Talk to you all soon!
