No More Complaining: The Positive Side of the CPA Exam

11 Oct 2013

NINJA CPA Review

Monique is a NINJA CPA Blogger.

No excuses! That’s what I want to scream at the top of my lungs to any non-candidate that complains about their lack of time, energy, sleep, etc.

So many of us have children, husbands, siblings, parents to take care of all while struggling up this hill. We have full time jobs, church commitments, school functions and a million other things going on that don’t stop just because we’ve decided to go after this elusive goal.

And so often we hear the complaints of others. How are we supposed to respond to that?

I think we respond by being better than those complaints. We hold our heads up high, smile and know that we aren't complainers. We are doers. We are achievers. We are capable of achieving our dreams. We are CPA candidates!

Part of the allure of becoming a CPA is that it's not easy. If it were easy then everyone would do it and we wouldn't appreciate it nearly as much as we do now.

So no more complaining for me. I'm thankful for the Another71 Forum where I can hear from likeminded people going through the same thing. I'm thankful that I can take 1 part at a time and have 18 months to pass the other 3. I'm thankful that there are online study courses that I can “attend” instead of having to leave my home several nights a week for a live class.

I'm thankful that I can retake an exam…and retake it…and retake it until I pass. I'm thankful. And I know I can do this.

God bless you all and I pray that your studying is productive and focused. WE CAN DO THIS!

Monique, I love that despite whatever adversity you may face while on your journey, you have chosen to appreciate the positives in it all. Attitude is everything in life and it sounds like you have the right one!

Monique, THANK YOU!!!!! I so needed to read this today. I'm a full time working mother of 2 with a husband that travels 5 days a week so in turn sometimes I feel like a single mother. I don't have a maid, personal chef, or someone to do my laundry. I have a church commitment once a month, a son who is playing soccer so we have a weekly week night and a weekend commitment. I was just telling myself last night I can't do all that and study. However, after I just read your blog post I have a new outlook. Yes I can do it all. I can take it one step at a time and I can retake an exam until I pass. Thank you so much for motivating me again today to hit the books this weekend (of course after our soccer game, grocery store, and other errands).

Thank you for your positivity. I have two young kids. My wife and I both work much more than 40 hours a week. It seems like my office has a year-round tax season. Never a break. But you just have to dig deep. I was watching a video about the Klitschko brothers who are famous world champion boxers from the Ukraine. They said similar things to what you said. You have to be hungry and want to succeed!!! Good luck to you!

Thank you so much for this post. My biggest obstacle is myself and once I Lear to get out of my own way, I KNOW I will pass

Yes, I TOTALLY Agree! God Bless you and keep it up!! Excuses are tools for the incompetent. Those who make them never excel in anything!
