With Only Two Days to Go, FAR is Too Close

NINJA CPA Review

By David

David is a weekly NINJA CPA Blogger.

I have just 2 days left to study for FAR and I am re-reviewing the main concepts and working through a bunch of Wiley MCQs.

I believe if the review material didn’t spend much time on explaining the concepts then you probably don’t need to either.

The only seat that I could find for this testing window was a late evening seat at 4 pm. I will make sure to have a good cup of coffee before going to the testing location.

Here are three main tips that I will be using from now till exam day:

1. Review basic concepts – It is very important to know the basic concepts of each of the review topics on the exam. This way in a worst case scenario you can usually weed out the multiple choice questions that are incorrect.

2. Rework MCQ questions – As many as possible. Reworking multiple choice questions and reading explanations of correct and incorrect answers can give you a great edge on test day.

Many times the questions on the exam may be similar to a question you have worked before and knowing why the choices were incorrect or correct can help you solve for the right answer. Also always go on your first instinct, it is usually correct.

3. No studying on test day. I don’t want to be reviewing material until the last minute and would rather have a clear mind when walking into the testing center.

I'm all about studying right up until the moment I walk into the testing center. I am big on writing down notes on my test paper right as I sit down, so I am usually reviewing all these key notes that I want to be able to recall right as I begin.

I usually study the night before the exam, but make sure I get at least 7-8hrs of sleep. On the day of exam, I do couple progress test before leaving the house then few in the parking lot (I get to the test center couple hours early). I also read over my notes while eating in the car! Good Luck and let us know how it goes! FAR is a beast.
